I hate that song 'if you get caught between the moon and new york city' so much I can't stand it, it makes me physically ill when it comes on.

If you mean Arthur's song that's a great one to sing communally when you're slightly inebriated and walking home in the rain.
To open this thread even more, what's the best song to sing ironically :)

You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet by Bachman-Turner Overdrive actually goes as far pissing me off when I hear it. Every time I hear that stuttery chorus I want to go find Randy Bachman and punch him in the nose. Then I realize it’s just a song and just sit there annoyed.

Steve Miller Band - "Take the Money and Run"
I just hate it.
No particular reason. Other than the lyrics really suck.

And I feel pretty much the same about just about all Steve Miller Band songs, when it comes down to it.

I'm actually kind of surprised that you don't recognize his greatness. He is right up there with all the top artists from his era.

Not saying he's not a legit talent. I just don't like him. Does nothing for me.
And, I think I pointed out before, his lyrics are absolute shite. Not always a sticking point for me, but for some reason his really bother me.

It's difficult to judge certain artists from past eras. What was cool decades ago is not necessarily cool now but it doesn't mean that those artists were totally without merit when they were popular. Even some of the early Beatle lyrics would be considered lame by today's standards but I'm sure no one cared about that back in the day.Time changes everything but the past contains some good memories that served us well.

Yeah, I don't care for the Dave Mathews band either. But there was a guy in the 70's named Tiny Tim and I literally could not stand him. Whenever he came on singing "Tip Toe Through The Tulips", I would start to gag. Terrible singer and fucked up song!

Add one more to the “anything by The Dave Matthews Band” club. Usually, if I don’t like an artist that’s rather popular I can at least wrap my head around what all the fuss is about. Then there’s a short list of ones that I can’t, for the life of me, understand the attraction. They’re on that list.

As Barry came up can I add Copacabana and Bermuda Triangle and Mandy... well most of his actually, they're too repetitive and sickly.
Also
Sometimes it's just the lyrics that turn you off especially if they're repeated many times as in Killing me softly ...
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

I feel likewise about Steve Miller. Well done songs in a way, but s-m-o--o-t-h, too smooth.
We Built This City (on Rock and Roll), gotta be the most pretentious drivel.
Hit Me Baby One More Time. (oh Britney, how could you???)
I do like Van Halen on the radio, w DLR.
Oh, the 60s and 70s, with their spacious vibe, wonder if that was due to the world younger then, and more space. (population doubled since then lol????)
having said that, there's a few from the era that seem to take their "superstah" status to levels of pretension, quite shameful really lol...
perhaps the seeds of punk and all the rest, the anti-thesis????

Agreed - that chorus is so depressing haha I hated it when Roberta Flack had a big hit with it and then I still hated it when The Fugees had a bit hit with it.

"Killing Me Softly" is a nicely constructed song with a good melody and an interesting lyrical premise but the words: "killing me softly" make me cringe. It's a really unfortunate and misguided metaphor. I really hate those words.
