Podcasting 101
I approach this from both sides, as a musician and a podcaster.
Here are two facts. Bands want exposure and podcasts provide it to various degrees. Podcasts are, by definition, narrowcasting. Targeting audiences rather than seeking a broad (cast) audience like radio. Within the podcast field, there are some casts that have a wide audience, like NPR's, or very small audiences like the teenager throwing together a school gossip cast.
The music podcasts with the biggest audience have interesting content. This is where indie bands come in. I have found great music to use on my podcast at Podshow.
