New Song Released! 1st in over a year!

Hello To All!

As with many others, 2020 was a rather unproductive year
for me in terms of recording.
But now I'm back and having several guest vocalists on my songs
is going to be a regular thing!
Here is my first release of 2021, "City Street Kid"
Sung by Ilya Ovchinnikov (Ilya O.) from the Russian band, "Acid Looks".
Lyrics below.
Hope you enjoy it!

~Jayson Dyall

City Street Kid (She Cries Out)
words and music by Jayson Dyall 2019

V1:
She walks in the city afraid and alone
Begging for change for something to eat
Her clothes are dirty and torn, this is no place for her
Her boyfriend brought her here, so far from home
But she never thought she'd be out on the streets
A drug deal gone bad, he's on the ground, a victim of murder

Chorus:
And she cries in pain, she has nowhere to go
Wants to cut her veins, but she's so afraid to die
And she can't go home, her mom told her hell no
Now she's all alone, just fighting to survive

V2:
She looks a bit worn but she's still underage
Sleeps at a park between a cluster of trees
A year ago she had the comfort of her bed
People just walk by, sees her as a disgrace
She resorts to beg or steal for something to eat
Sometimes she feels she might be better off dead

Chorus:
And she cries in pain, she has nowhere to go
Wants to cut her veins, but she's so afraid to die
And she can't go home, her mom told her hell no
Now she's all alone, just fighting to survive

Bridge:
She used to cry out for her momma
But momma gave up on her long ago
She wish she could reach out to her poppa
But he's just another man she don't know

BREAK (Oohs, Aahs)

And she cries in pain, she has nowhere to go
Wants to cut her veins, but she's so afraid to die
And she can't go home, her mom told her hell no
Now she's all alone, just fighting to survive

She used to cry out for her momma
But momma gave up on her long ago
She wish she could reach out to her poppa
But he's just another man she don't know
She used to cry out for her momma
But momma gave up on her long ago
She wish she could reach out to her poppa
But he's just another man she don't know

BREAK (Oohs, Aahs) to fade out

I found myself fully engaged in the story. It's one we've all heard before, but the raw intensity of the vocal carries it off. I love the frantic strumming of that guitar, too. Great energy.

Thanks Tom!! I really appreciate your comment!
Yes, his vocals made the song! Better than my singing would had, lol
Took almost 2 years on and off for this one to finally be completed so it feels good when others enjoy the story and song itself! :-)

I think it's a great song, a very sad song in these hard days I can't face sharing it on my station as the never ending lockdown here in UK makes me depressed already.

This is NOT a criticisim incidentally - issues should be flagged up in song and this is a really good one.

We have quite a lot of homeless here too.

This has very unique arrangements (which was a quick attention grabber for me) and sounds very good on my studio speakers which means you did a great mix! Loving the whole vibe. Much Respect, Stoneman

This song and it’s production shows a lot of growth on your part. The timing is right on the money and doesn’t drift off the correct rhythm,
yet it still swings like a pendulum do! Nice simple
drum beat really drives the song forward! The vocals are excellent, on pitch and passionate too. Congrats, Jay!

Chandra, thanks.
Yes, I'm aware of the homeless issue everywhere, it's what inspired me to write this song. Oftentimes some of these homeless people are there due to certain harsh circumstances that befell them in their lives. They are not there by choice and many are not there due to drugs or alcohol as the general consensus are taught to believe. And in today's economy, especially here in the States, one lost paycheck, or loss of a job, or a medical emergency or death of a family member that drains someone's finances, can easily lead to a person becoming homeless. I've seen it happen. I went through it twice in my life for a few months each time. That's why I am empathetic to their plight and have been an advocate to help as best as I can.
Please do share the song as it may help bring more awareness to this cause.

:-)

Stoneman and Scotti, Thanks! I really appreciate your words!
This song had been in the works for over a year and a half, always making changes here and there in order to make it better and get it just right!
The final decision was to get a better singer than I to sing this song.
The subject of song needed to be relayed with high energy and raw passion, that's how I heard it in my head, thus had to find the right singer for it, I'm glad I did!
Thanks again!

And having the song hit #1 in the Post Punk subgenre and holding steady there since is just Icing on the cake! :-)
