Thank you for the compliment, Delores. Let me clarify what I've said before in previous posts and expand on my thought process. All of the songs I have been posting were written 3 years ago. Of course they have evolved over that period but they were "born" so to speak in the past. They've been growing up and leaving home to find their way in the world. I have several more that I wrote back then that will soon be polished and will be part of a new CD.
Since I recently talked about taking a break, I've written no new songs and I don't intend to write any new songs in the near future. My only goal is to finish this CD which I hope will be the best I've ever recorded and then take a long vacation with my wife followed by a lot of other non-musical endeavors like spending more time with friends and family. I need to rest and recharge my physical and spiritual batteries.
I can only make one pledge to anyone who cares - I will never actually "retire". But I do intend to take a long break from what has been the most labor intensive 3 years I have ever spent on my music. When I eventually return to action - I hope I can come up with a new sound that is totally different from what I do now. I can't predict the future. Who knows what will happen? I just want to stay healthy and do what I love while I can. Maybe I'll write a musical someday! Only time will tell - if time permits.
In the meantime, I hope folks can relate to this song about healing and forgiveness, two things we need more of.
Water Under The Bridge
I'm not the kind to hold a grudge
Who am I to judge
It's better to forgive
That's how I wanna live
We'll be friends until the end
Let's move on
The future is just beyond the ridge
The past is gone
It's just like water under the bridge
I know I let you down
Maybe you let me down too
But life's too short you know
So let's just let it go
We'll be friends until the end
Let's move on
The future is just beyond the ridge
The past is gone
It's just like water under the bridge
It's hard to live with all this regret
There are memories too painful to forget
It doesn't matter who's to blame
I don't wanna play that game
Compassion is like a rose
It's beautiful when it grows
We'll be friends until the end
Let's move on
The future is just beyond the ridge
The past is gone
It's just like water under the bridge

Oh, I guess I missed some posts along the way. I totally didn't realize these weren't new songs. Either way - they're all wonderful, including Water Under The Bridge. I can personally relate right now to forgiving and forgetting.
We're sort of sitting still musically for a moment but not taking any real break - just waiting for the next sounds to find us.
Sounds like some good times ahead for you for now - have fun :)

Thank you so much, Ken for your kind words of support. It makes all the hard work worth it. The path to the near completion of this project has been rocky but exhilarating. I felt at times that I had bitten off more than I could chew but each time I pushed myself to overcome the obstacles and each time I did that I felt like I climbed a mountain.

A song one has never heard before is a new song.
After I write a song, I continuously work on it and change it right up until the moment I release it.
Water Under The Bridge was mixed hundreds of times and sections of it were rewritten many times. The most recent rewrite was the day before I posted it. The same was true of Sky Blue as well.
I’m trying harder to write lyrics that are relatable. I hope that comes across. I really want to connect with
people.

For me, the stand out part is the change at 3:20 (also happens earlier in tune). The chord change and harmony here is compelling: "the past is gone..."
The lyric doesn't resonate for me so much. I'm more in line with Faulkner(?):
the past is never really gone, it's not even past
...but remember, I'm no one.
Very talented crew. I'd like to get in closer to the band when you do your sound evolution you speak of here.

@Bob Elliot ~
Yes, there are many ways to interpret the concept of time. This song just speaks about one of them. Of course the past is always with us. Mine haunts me like a ghost at times. What I'm trying to say is that ghosts aren't real. The goal for me is to attempt to live in the present as much as possible and this is what I'm urging someone else to do as well. Theories in quantum physics talk about the past always being with us and maybe time doesn't really exist and so on but my song is simply about trying to let go of grudges, getting over hurt feelings and moving on into the future. It's a wish, a goal, an aspiration, not a pronouncement of fact.
As for my "crew", well I guess I'm the crew. I play all the instruments and write all the words and music. I sing on some songs and have guest vocalists singing on the others. I also produce and engineer all the recordings at home. I only do things this way because I can't afford to do it any other way.
BTW - no one is no one. Everyone is someone.
