Sad songs
Elton John sang “Sad Songs Say So Much”. It seems that they also dominate the music world especially in the last few years. So many songs are about heartbreak, isolation and depression. Many songs are confessional in nature and very self reflective of some form of unhappiness. Perhaps there is a therapeutic trend where venting one’s pain is a cathartic gesture. Are sad songs popular because of the prevalence of sadness in the world? Many songs are stories about losing a loved one through death or divorce and some speak of being true to one’s self and being authentic. Music is often a mirror that reflects the present reality and the need to release difficult feelings. What are your thoughts on the subject?

It always struck me as strange that that song by Elton is so upbeat.
Neil Young has a lot of down songs, I'd especially note Side B of On The Beach which is my favorite of his records. This song I always say is the soundtrack for my life because I keep returning to it, ritualistically played it every night in college.

I think that songwriters tend to mimic the mood of the country in regards to heir writings. After a few depressing years like the last few that we have had there is no wonder that there are so many sad songs today. The mood of the country has been sad from so much loss of liberties due to the pandemic, racial unrest, political unrest, natural disasters and so much more. As things lighten up so do the songwriters. We tend to reflect the moods of the people.

I think you're right on, Richard about there being more sadness than ever in modern society. I sometimes get the feeling that no one really cares about anyone but themselves. (Then I remember all the people in my life who are kind, generous, and compassionate - and I remember that we're not alone).
It really is true that the love of money is the root of all evil. No one can ever have enough. That puts us in a position of want, and that creates sadness because the wanting never goes away. That sadness pervades society. Everyone is concerned with what to wear and what to listen to. They want to drive the right car, have the right job, root for the right team.
Sad songs connect us emotionally. If the song has truth, you're going to feel it. And if the songwriter did his or her job, then you're not even going to need the lyrics to feel it.
One of my favorite sad songs is "Alone Again - Naturally" which, if you're not paying attention to the lyrics, sounds almost jaunty and upbeat. But in the first verse he's going to a nearby tower to throw himself off after being jilted at the alter. It just gets worse from there.
Another good sad song is Neil Young's "Don't Let it Bring You Down."

The "saddest" part of all for me(in Kennedy's assassination) is remembering that my parents were actually "glad" that this had happened. I was 3 yrs. old at the time. I found out later that my parents actually hated having a Catholic for a president because they believed that Catholics were "idolaters" who "worshiped idols and images" of Jesus. They also thought he was a "hippie" and a "dope head".

What is an example of a dogma?
In short, all Dogmas are Doctrine, but not all Doctrine is Dogma. Examples of Dogmas: Papal Infallibility, the divinity of Christ, the Immaculate Conception, the Assumption of Mary and the real Presence of the Eucharist. google
"Idolaters" oh horror...
OMG, Greek mythology, all the beautiful myths...
We create our own system or are enslaved by another's.

Dog/Ma = "Bitch" from "Hell"! Female DOG/GOD
"Myth"ology is "apparently" a "Story" as IT Appears To Be A "Parently" Story being told by THEM "parents"(King & Queen) unto their children("The Mass")... And if you'd call them "Parables" my parents would be all "on board" with THEM(so long as they all came from The Bible).
