Rough Versions?
When I first used to write songs, I'd put the most ghastly versions up on my Myspace and get loads of comments - for example - the track is quite good but would be better if the drummer got himself a metronome! ha ha - etc. Since then I've developed the tracks and recorded most of them "properly". Some people really liked the raw versions though.
I've got some rough tracks of new songs - do you think it's a good idea or not to put up rough recordings (not to sell of course).
Just interested in peoples' opinions on this.

The real question is - why not? You have nothing to lose. You might get some rough comments on your rough tracks but if you can stand it, go for it! I'm sure you'll get some good constructive advice too which you can use to improve the songs.
If this doesn't work out for you, you can always just remove the songs. Sometimes the rough versions have more passion and authenticity than ones that are too thought out and planned. It really depends on the song. IAC is a good testing ground for works in progress.

Perhaps rough is not a good description, rather maybe more at organic and where a persons musicianship shines through and that of the song as well if it has a melodic quality that it can stand on its own with fine rhythmic and or interesting vocal offerings, or if it is just an instrumental then the answer is obvious. additional aspects to enhancing the song is something that can be done to various degrees
Some material can be just fine without dressing it up....

Chandra, You're a really good songwriter, and I think that would come through on the roughest of recordings. It's a great test of a song to hear it raw, without all the dressing up. I'd love to hear what you've got.

Thanks guys - I may well put a couple of "raw" - let's not say rough as Bryon suggested - tracks which I hope to record in the studio next year.
