Easy - New Mix and Better MP3 for download
Yet another new track - I'm firing on all cylinders now and enjoying every minute.
This track is about the amazing things human beings can do in dreams and also about the soul when it's been freed from the body and the sadness of those left behind.
I hope you like it - constructive comments welcomed (it's not quite the final mix!)
Thanks
Easy

I left a comment on your page about this too .... I just love this track. I saw it on the IAC page and didn't realize you had posted here to say it's not the final mix, so I asked about downloading - I'd still love to if that's at all possible.
I can't imagine what you would change - everything just flows together perfectly. All your new stuff is really inspired Chandra - keep it coming.

This is a great song, Chandra, one of your best. I agree with Delores that there's is nothing much that needs changing. I love the surf guitar and the ambient sounds. The whole production is very ambitious and it works really well in evoking the images you are singing about. Your vocals are excellent too. I hear some Aimee Mann influence in there. Good song for a movie soundtrack!

Thanks for your lovely comments - I agree entirely with you Richard about the kick drums. I'm in the studio tomorrow and once we've tweaked it I'll make it available for download.
Thrilled you like the track - it's a very special one for me.

Yes! on the download .... respectfully disagreeing with the maestros haha - I think the kick gives it an edge that makes it not so refined and more magical - I'm just sayin' :)

Chandra ~ what is your special connection to all things "water". Were you a mermaid in another life? Do you live on the beach? It's a beautiful influence on your work. Just to clarify ~ mixing is where the rubber meets the road. It's never all or nothing when it comes to details like kick drums, snares, bass etc. it's all about increasing or deceasing volumes or effects by tiny increments to find the sweet spot for every instrument or effect. The kick can still be punchy and dramatic in it's sweet spot. It would be wrong to over correct it and take away too much of it's power but with a little bit of tweaking, you can split the difference between too much of it and too little. I actually edited out that comment about the kick because I thought it might seem a little "picky" but the comment was read and responded to before I could do it though it was definitely in the category of "constructive advice" which was what was asked for.

Oh yeah, on the comment about the kick - and there's the variable of where you are listening from ie computer speakers being all sorts of different quality - so everyone on this blog could be hearing a completely different sound.
I sure hope I didn't seem sarcastic in my comment .... I sooo respect your views on production, Richard. I was completely psyched to be having a discussion with you and Chandra, haha. Believe me, I wouldn't have the chance to talk about song writing to anyone like the people here otherwise.

I appreciate all comments and constructive criticism is more than welcome. I have a really good producer and I'd already noticed on my home speakers that the drum track is a bit over the top. Please always feel free to make suggestions - I'm very grateful people listen with a discerning ear!
I love the recording process and the last bit - the mixing and mastering is always the trickiest part!
Oh and Richard - about the water - I did used to do a lot of scuba diving years ago so maybe that's got into my blood a bit!! I do miss it.

I never listen to anything through computer speakers. My computer is hooked up to professional recording monitors that are very flat and accurate. If something sounds not quite right on these speakers, it's probably the case that something needs tweaking.
No need to be apologetic about anything, Delores. We're just friends talkin' music and it is true that art and mixing is pretty subjective. Your opinion has just as much value as mine or anyone else's.
Chandra ~ several of your songs make me want to go to the beach again! (something I did a lot as a kid but hardly do anymore.) The serenity of the ocean and the great outdoors is so soothing.

I have some beautiful powered speakers in my studio for when I want to listen properly plus some Creative speakers on my laptop which are good to hear through for what it sounds like on average systems. It's so hard to get it right for everywhere and everyone but you have to stop somewhere ha ha!!
I'm looking forward to tomorrow to finish that track off!

To clarify, I guess I was calling my Creative speakers my computer speakers. That's just at my desk. In the studio, I always mix with headphones and then reality check on the monitors (flat). After everything is mixed and mastered, I listen to it on everything I can find - car stereo, blueray, iPod, etc etc
And I agree, it's potentially endless. There are so many different versions possible. Love the studio!

Hi again guys!
OK we've tweaked the drums a bit and I've uploaded a better quality MP3 (the best I can do with my account) and made it available for download for Dolores and anyone else who likes it!
The very final version on the album might be a tad different as it's not mastered yet but will more than do for now.
I'm also uploading another new track called The Rain but that's another story!

The new mix is amazing. The drums sound fabulous and the vocals and electronica stuff have more dimension too. I just love this song so much - can't believe you put it up here right now. It's just coinciding with what I need to hear in a big way.
Bummer on the download though - when I click the $ by the tune, it doesn't bring you to the download page .... anyone else having trouble with that?

The other two new songs are working so not sure why that download button isn't working. Maybe because it's so new it takes a day or so? Leave it a day and try again and if it's still not working I'll re-upload it but the others seem ok.
*scratches head.....*
