Brand new song (at last!@**!!)
I've finally written (some might say half written as I think it needs a third verse). Paddy and I had a go at it last night so I've uploaded it anyway even though it's in a rough state.
I got the idea for the song from the African tradition of the griots, or storytellers. If only we could get our own story right, inside ourselves, our homes and our communities we'd pass the right message on to the next generations - not a new theme of course.
Of course it needs arranging properly and re-recording with a third verse possible but interested to know if you think it's got potential. It was the war in Syria that got me going on it.

It definitely has potential! I especially love the message and the way it is expressed through the lyrics. I'm eager to hear this song when it is produced up to your usual standards. Yes, it's quite rough as a demo but I'm sure it will work out in the end.
Good luck!

Although I agree that it still has a little work to be done, I really like this a lot. I also think it has a lot of potential and I can't wait to hear it after you give it the full Chandra treatment. In 2006 my graduate thesis from college was on the correlation and remarkable similarities between the Griots of Africa and Black American rap artists. I wrote about the similarities in regards to the telling of the history of the streets, call and response and the reverence given to some rap artists because of their abilities to tell the tragic stories about gang warfare and street cred. I also wrote about the similarities between gang war and tribal wars in Africa. I got an "A" on it which helped to preserve my 4.0 GPA.
I am not sure this needs a 3rd verse. Maybe a bridge? But its your baby! Go forth and make it what you think it should be. So far, out of everything I have heard from you, I am confident that you will make the correct decision!
Much Respect Chandra!

I really admire the way you do this kind of a lyric. I always want to write stuff like this, but it usually comes out preachy and obnoxious haha - looking forward to future versions ....

I know what you mean, Delores. I feel very strongly about humanitarian subjects but when I try to put those feelings in a song it comes out a little pretentious despite my most sincere attempts! I admire how Chandra is able to avoid that pitfall.
Bob Dylan was good at that in the early days of protest music but even he eventually avoided taking stands on various issues in songs. He found it was was more fruitful to go deeper into himself and the collective unconscious which is kind a zen thing because since theoretically we are all one, then going deeper into one's self is actually going deeper into the hearts and minds of others.

thanks guys - I'm missing my producer Richard who's moved to France so it's harder for me to record things professionally at the moment. Still, onwards and upwards and I'll find a way!
