Richard, I know a bit about this so I thought I'd chime in here. Yes this is the note that was reportedly Cobain's suicide note. Courtney Love read it at the wake on the day after he died.

However the note itself is steeped in controversy. For the most part, it is indeed a note written by Cobain but if you look at it closely, the lines at the bottom appear to be written in a different handwriting. Many believe that the note is really about leaving the music biz, a retirement note and that Courtney herself spun the meaning with additional text to make it appear like a suicide note. It later came out that there was another note which Courtney destroyed, it is theorized because that second note verified what this note was about.
Friends of Kurt claim he was going to leave Courtney and that's part of why she had him killed. There was a man, Eldon Hoke, who claimed that Courtney offered him money to off Kurt but this man died soon after he began to talk about this, under mysterious circumstances (somehow ended up in front of a train !). A friend and collaborator of mine knew this guy quite well and said he would never have made up that story if it didn't happen. Hoke also passed a lie detector test.
