Voices that move you?
So, who are the singers that seem to speak to you on a personal level? I'm not talking about their songs, I'm just talking about the instrument of their voice. Like they could sing the phone directory or a grocery list and you'd still be moved?
My short list includes:
Neil Finn
Mark Kozalec (Red House Painters)
Rufus Wainwright
Aimee Mann
Elliott Smith
Stevie Wonder
Bob Marley
Nat King Cole
Elvis Costello
Ella Fitzgerald
Kurt Cobain
What does your list include?

bessie smith
john lennon
paul mccartney
bruce springsteen (esp. "asbury park," the electric poet)
elvis costello (esp. "allison," and "What's So Funny about peace, love and
understandin'" though he didn't happen to write that song)
bob dylan (esp. "visions of joanna" and "i want you" though that may be alittle hoaky.)
there are so many wonderful indie artists, whose music, i believe, touches on the "ancient heavenly connection between the starry dynamo and the machinery of night," like the bard said. many are here on IAC, god bless em. exploration, innovation, goin' strong...
continue the great work...
also, check out an indie artist "another jennifer" and/or "levi 101" on cd baby. her pop/rap adventurous, playful, maybe innovative, my humble view.

I adore Ryan Adams, some of Melanie's old stuff (you might remember this if you're as old as the hills), Dusty Springfield, Kurt Cobain - oh so many .....
not to mention dozens here - my favourite voice though for being moved whatever she sings is the Mali star Rokia Traore.

Thanks for reminding me of so many great voices - and mentioning some that I'm not too familiar with and will check out.
I'm not just saying this because he said something about mine, but Bob Elliott has got one of the most truly unique voices in music today. He was on a lawn at Humboldt State playing and singing when I met him, and I instantly knew he was something special.

I just love the artist here called Serena Matthews - her song Moon Hanging Low which I've just added a couple of days ago to my station (Over The Moon) just gives me the shivers every time I hear it - have you listened to it yet?

It's not that a singer has the best, pitch or range, but if he/she is connected to the song and sings it with conviction, emotion, that is then conveyed to the audience or listener
