I'm so wanting to upload my new song...
But aparently I'm only a gold member (Goldmember?). So I'm limited to 40 songs, though I still have about 60 posted. Thanks IAC for not axing any of them. But I suppose this means that to share any new music, I've got to cut 20+ songs from the roster. Darn, I was shooting for 100. Sure, there are some that hardly get any play, but they're all my babies, you know? I'm just glad for the few listens some songs get. I'm happy when there are songs that I really like that maybe weren't mixed or produced that well (I haven't been doing my own recording very long - the earlier ones really show that) and then maybe they get 10 plays in a month. Maybe not many people got them, but some did, at least enough to listen to 60%. It is exciting for me to share my music this way - except for the occasional open mic, I haven't been playing out in a while. I'm all about changing that.
So I guess I've got to start cutting. It might be good to trim the sails and get things more ship-shape. Shed the fat and create a leaner, stronger me. I'm always going to be adding new music as long as I can hold a guitar. So far I've got a good grip.
So ... off to the killing floor. Stay tuned.

Let's continue the parental analogy as you said that your songs are like your children.
A good parent knows when to hold on and when to let go. Some of your kids are ready to leave the nest. To many children living under one roof can be very stressful and stifling for them. They need to get out into the world and survive on their own.
As for the non-metaphor logic, too many songs on a page can be a turn off to some listeners. It seems overwhelming. Show off your best work. Try to keep the ones that are recorded well. You can always rotate songs as well and bring back ones you've deleted replacing other ones that you're removing. Sometimes doing that gives a listener a fresh look at an old song they have already heard and they will see it through new eyes.
Pruning a tree makes it healthier ~ OK no more analogies!!!

i also have over 40 traxs on my page and was wondering which ones i should cut. what you have said makes sense. Trim down to the best of the best.

Funnily enough only yesterday I was thinking of cutting down and pruning my tracks a bit. Specially the ones which I'm going to record properly later this year and release on my second album.
The rough tracks certainly don't get the plays the more polished ones do but it's great to get a bit of feedback then pull them. Good luck choosing!

Thanks for the advice guys, I can see how visiting a page with too many songs can put you off. Sometimes I'll find someone with, say, 4 or 6, and I'll listen to them all. But if I come to a page with dozens, I'm more likely to skim through titles that grab me, and then I might be missing out on some great music. Even 40 is sounding like way too many. I'll let you know when I've made the cuts.

Well I finally made a list, chose a good number of songs to drop - was going to leave up about 30 and add from there. But I guess no one has used the "delete song" function lately, because it wasn't working. Never fear, Bam and team are working on it.
But, I've decided to throw caution to the wind instead and upgrade to the next level, which will give me up to 100 songs. I still may delete some; it would be good to separate the grain form the chaff. How I do love metaphors. There's a reason some songs get play and some don't. Not everything is a gem.
By the way, Sophie's Choice is an excellent book and film.
