And Now for Something Completely Different ...
I wrote a song in French, just to see if I could. I like the way the French language sings. I'm far from fluent, but using mostly high school vocabulary, Google Translate, and an online French rhyming dictionary, I was able to cobble together this pretty little French folk song. Hope you like it.
Je Ne Sais Quoi
English translation:
All the women of Paris have I don't know what
To relieve the old ennuis, that I don't know what
Sometimes I think I know
But I cannot say
Something in the shape of her nose
Or her little smile?
What quickens my poor heart? That I don't know what
Changes my sadness to happiness - that I don't know what
Turns my head every time
Never knowing why
I don't know what
I don't know what
When I saw you for the first time, you had something
I had to look again - that certain something
You must be a Parisienne
Because I saw it in you
Beauty that is ancient
Comes from that place
I will never know the truth - that's okay, I suppose
Perhaps it would spoil it - the end of the hypnosis
It makes no difference to me
As long as it's always there
I don't know what
I don't know what
