Sorry to be pedantic, but a 'brand new band' can't seriously claim that their debut record can be the best thing they've ever done ?
That said, the way they unleash it in a generally apathetic and musically swamped world would depend on what the band want to achieve - money, notoriety, gratification, sales, downloads (or all of the above)
It also depends on their current social and business network/contacts/audience, the cash they are willing to invest, whether they make live appearances or if their music is of a style likely to fit in to the current thriving markets and attract enthusiastic listeners.
So I'd advise the band to construct a mutually agreeable business plan and strategy of goals they want to achieve at certain points in the future. In the meantime maybe just release the tracks here at IMP and get feedback from the Review/Commentary Dept.
Hope this helps (but I suspect not)

Well this is confusing.
First, I have no idea.
It's like John said back in the day,
"if we knew how we do what we do we'd form four groups and be managers"...
But as for a New Band not being able to claim a Debut
is the "Best They've Ever Done"... well of course they can.
What is the alternative? I suppose you could be cheeky
and call your Debut Album "Worst Damn Thing We've Ever Done."
The term Debut does imply that nothing, not better, not worse, came before.
As for what comes after, it hasn't happened yet, so it does not count.
I have a brand new band which is actually very old,
and each time we make a record we think it's the best thing we ever did.
Till the next one. Or till I do one by myself (which isn't even so, since
they're my band whether it's ALJ or Bsex)...
We just do what we do, we pull a song out of nowhere like cotton candy,
then slap a record together around it. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
All this really tells you nothing and leaves you more bewildered
than you were to begin with.
Sorry about that. Sucks to be me.
