What's your standard for what you consider original music?
Personally if I hear a song that is more style than new melody, no matter what the lyrics are, I can't stay interested in it.
If IMP had a genre called Clone Rock, what percentage of songs would belong there do you think?

Originality is Relative in today's music world..
Perceptions varies from listener to listener, as well as artist to artist.
Fact is to be completely original is rare.
The 60's to 80's was an exception, where new and different styles were born.
But since the 90s, it became rarer to be completely original even though once in a blue moon a gem is found amongst the rocks (pun intended).
Personally speaking, I don't think you need to have a genre called Clone Rock,
as there is already several genres and many sub-genres here that indicates the songs are basically new interpretations of styles previously used, such as Beatles Rock and Beatlesque (you know songs will sound reminiscent of The Beatles), Classic Rock and 70s Rock (you know these songs will have that 60's to 70s sounds), Retro Rock (you know the songs will sound like styles ranging from the 50s to 80s more or less) and so on.
All that will showcase music that is not all that original, just a homage to those styles in a new way, hopefully in a good way.
My side project The Dyall-Tones is such an example, we play old styles in a new way, Same goes for Beatlesex and a few other artists here.
As someone stated in a previous posting, "Old Is New Again".
