About the precious kind of internet denizen who avoids clicking links like they're germ-infected.
I was having a conversation with somebody on facebook today and he clicked on a couple of the links i posted, one from the indie band Fyrefly and one from Neg Tendencies and loved both songs. He remarked that he ought to take the time to click on songs more often because he really enjoyed them. I told him my philosophy which is when I'm not working where I can't listen, I click on all kinds of stuff, I click on stuff I'm sure I'll hate, because I get surprised so often. I believe almost all my friends and almost all the people I know fall in the category of precious link snubbers. I don't even think they have a good reason, and that they rationalize. Moreso I think they are repulsed by the idea that somebody might actually be wanting them to click and this makes them feel put upon. I would like to declare war on the precious because they know not what they miss! They (you) are culturally inferior because of their (your) snotty attitude. Be bold and click on shit, there is good shit and bad shit and you never know what shit you're gonna get so how about taking a risk and making your life a little better?

Aren't you viewing this from a very narrow perspective Father Time because your spare time has to be filled with music, and subjects relating to it are a constant in your head? Few people are as extreme as you in that respect.
If I read this right then I guess I'm a "precious link snubber" I also believe that most folks have to use precious spare time for a whole variety of other things and music is there to balance this.
Calling people "... culturally inferior because of their (your) snotty attitude" is very presumptuous and quite offensive. Let me ask you a few things.
Do YOU always answer your door when someone knocks?
Do YOU always pick up your phone if you think it might be someone you don't feel like chatting to right now?
Do YOU postpone opening an email when you think it might commit you do doing something you'd rather not get into?
When you are canvassed on the street does your heart sink a little because you may have to make up an excuse to get out of paying or helping?
There are many more pressing things that could make life better for people, like spending time with loved ones, showing interest in their life, hugging, caring - like getting out and appreciating nature's gifts - like writing, cooking, bathing, shopping. I'd say pretty much everything in life is more important than taking pot luck with a link or 2 or 12 that happen to pop up on Facebook.
Life is full of demands already, don't let's make music another one by turning it into a chore of conscience.

Judging by your rationalizations at the bottom of your post I'd say you're definitely one of the precious. It's not about a chore of conscience though. It's just about getting crusty about something because you can. It's a lazy attitude to view yourself too special to click a music link because you refuse to listen because at this or that time it's not what you intend to be doing.
I think my post got under your skin because it hit home.

The more I think about it, this RTC (reluctance to click) could be the single factor holding indies back the most. Something must be done about this tendency, on a global scale.

I'm not a big link clicker myself. I think the problem is over-saturation. There are simply too many people demanding time and attention out there.

Well clearly that factor is behind much of the problem, but it's not right that people should become unreversably jaded to the point where they'll pretty much never click on music links as a rule again.

I'm just a simple, uneducated birdy so I had to look up the word denizen and I don't understand how being
"a foreigner allowed certain rights in their adopted country"
applies to someone who don't click on links, just sayin' I'm a foreigner but I'm not adopting any country that that 'allows' me to watch youtube
jokey joke

I don't see it as a problem. People are going to do what they want to do. Click what they want to click.

It's much easier than you think. Just like quitting smoking, if your habit is getting out of hand, better to go cold turkey than cut it down to one or two links a day.

I am more likely to listen to new music if it is recommended to me by a friend whose listening tastes I respect.

I am certainly a precious as I have had some bad experiences clicking on links. First of all, you never really know the true source of a link. I mean, quite often I click on a link that is supposed to take me to some music or some other shit but it turns out to be a drug for impotence or some other scam. Also, sometimes my virus software warns me not to click on a link because it is suspect. So, I ignore the link and go somewhere else. I don't mean to snub my friends but sometimes scammers take over their personal emails and send out bogus shit or shit that may infect my computer or steal my personal shit. It's not worth the risk to me or my stuff.
