Keith Jarrett confronts a future without the piano
I found this story torturous because I continue to have issues with my own hands, was trying to record some guitar yesterday and it was borderline impossible. and piano was so much more of his life than guitar ever was of mine.

Thanks for posting this FT. Jarrett is one of my all time fav composers, performers and piano jazz stylists and a fellow musician trained in classical genre which laid a solid groundwork for his eventual foray into the various jazz vibe. Always a struggle when a musician loses some of their ability through health issues.
Sorry to read you are struggling with issues with your hands, that is indeed frustrating and discouraging.Yet despite that, you are still cranking out some solid tunage! I hope you get better in time.

Yes, the guitar is definitely the most physically demanding instrument there is. Dylan gave up playing guitar live and played organ instead. A friend of mine switched to playing nylon string guitar which is much easier to play than acoustic or electric. They sound good on recordings too!

I do slower, more deliberate warm-ups. More finger stretching. All the years playing my ass off are taking a toll here, too. Drugs help. lol. But seriously, it is sad for all of us players.

Wow, good article. I don't know how I react to the loss of my hand use; it would be a kind of mini-death. We have to count our blessings.
