here's a blast from the past - the Blumberg Scandal at mp3.com
Some pretty crazy things have come my way during my time in online music. At mp3.com Father Time was really starting to make a name for himself, and eventually one of my songs debuted at #1 which just never happened. The site's top promoter at the time was named David Blumberg and he approached me, wanting the new hot artist to be on his roster. I was excited about this happening, but a few days in I got an email from him, bragging that he had cracked the code, there was some combination of boxes if you checked them when uploading your song you would get an automatic feature which meant a lot of plays. I was all about integrity, still am in fact, so I wanted nothing to do with this and quit his squad in what for me was a soft spoken way. However he nor any of his other artists took kindly to that and I basically got gang attacked everytime I showed up for a few months after that til he got suspended. He sent me a picture of a horsehead and threatened to knock out my molars.
got a pretty great song out of this incident though.

That's a great story. Integrity is everything in the music biz and you did the right thing FT, and I will have to check that song out, I have many of your songs on a lot of my stations although not that one, it is a tune I will listen to soon.

I remember Blumberg, didn't he teach sax or wind? I often wondered what he actually got out of promoting artists on mp3.com.

yeah he was a concert clarinet player who played in John Williams' orchestra of Star Wars fame. the mp3.com promoters got a percentage of the pay for play.

That was so strange. He started it. He called me a psychopath. That stimulated me to Photoshop his pic that he posted. I couldn't resist. It was intense for weeks on end. At first he was polite and then he got into trying to pin me. I'm still laughing now.At some point Rene got into it, not allowing Snake's music anywhere on B promotion cd. I'm still laughing.

oh yes, that story could not be told without Zeeza's masterful photoshops of Blumberg. Her efforts with him and Wolfie got her the title the Andy Warhol of Photoshop. ha ha
