Are you getting the listeners you really want?
I guess most of you are grateful for any listeners whoever they are!
However, do some artists prefer listeners who not only like their stuff but also explain why. It's the old quantity v quality debate.
I believe music makers should be proud of what they produce, but I suspect many artists (even the popular ones) would prefer to create to their own taste hoping to find likeminded listeners.
Most songwriters start off simply, maybe a guitar or piano - they often test the water with covers but pretty soon they will be creating originals. Once a manager or producer (or other band members) get involved it becomes harder to stick with your own principles and ideas.
Do we keep churning out what people expect from us just because it works, even if we're tired doing the same old stuff?
At the level most IMP artists are, listeners are usually forgiving, if you try something new or different you will mostly be encouraged because it doesn't really matter, you're just here for the fun and some personal satisfaction.
Maybe some of you do crave more genuine love from your listeners because there's nothing better than having someone on your wavelength giving you positive reviews.

My motivation for songwriting is to express thoughts, feelings and ideas that other people might enjoy. I strive to write songs that resonate with listeners in a variety of ways. I don’t have a “target” audience that I’m aiming for. Like any artist, I enjoy positive reviews but I don’t crave their acceptance. I just appreciate it.
