So Divisive On My YouTube Channel
It really pisses me off. That mean YouTube subscriber think my new video is... LAME! Angry. Divisive. Frustrated. Offensive. Someone thinks that my video is LAME! I'm feeling angry now because it's divisive, devastated, and hateful.

I'm willing to bet everyone here on IMP has experienced non constructive criticism like this. Don't let it get you down! I see pretty well all positive comments on your youtube channel, so focus on that and keep doing what you do.

Don't feel bad. Every artist has had their work trashed at one point or another so you have to have thick skin at times and not let the negativity affect you. Keep pursuing your musical vision and most of all, keep doing what you do for the love of it, that will always bring the greatest rewards.

You have got to have thick skin in this business. Everyone has an opinion and some of them are just going to be horrendous. But you have to learn to just let it slide on by and concentrate on the positives. Back in the early 70's I was sending out about 300 demo's a year. The result was hundreds of rejection letters. I was totally heartbroken. But I tried to weed out the bad ones and look for the ones that had constructive critiques. They were things like "Sounds dated, enhance your music tracks and this song will be better." Or, "great tune but the lyrics are not pointed enough." I concentrated on fixing those things and the result was a whole lot more rejection letters but I got my first song signed to a publisher in 1979. A publisher that had previously rejected me 10 times. I got my foot in that door and it has been there ever since. Now, he publishes anything I send him. But, of course, I started doing my own publishing since them. What I am saying is that a bad critique can be helpful. They are hearing something that you may have missed. But some folks just like being ugly for the sake of being ugly. Those are the ones that you should just ignore. I created lasting relationships corresponding back and forth with companies that routinely rejected me. Now they look forward to my submissions and I get songs signed every year. You have to learn how to turn a blind eye on some ignorant people. They are not worth your time or your concern. Don't give them that kind of power over you. You know your music is good. Right? Hold on to that and ignore the bullshit.

Dear Shawn,
Though you don't know me allow me to impart a hard lesson that Scott CEO of IMP here once taught me. That has served me well.
When you make your music make it first and foremost for yourself because its what you love to do and its what is in your heart.
Regardless of what others might say if your music has brought you joy in its creation then it will bring others joy.
For those who don't understand your music that is a loss for them and has no bearing upon that which you have done.
You Shawn have pulled music out of the sky and put it in a form that others can hear and enjoy.
While it might not always be popular with everyone who cares its a gift because its creation it brought you joy.
Best to you on your journey.
