Falling Short
Well, here I am, feeling like I fell short compared to last week. I gave it my all, but just being nominated feels like a win I didn’t fully earn. Yet, I hold onto the lessons of perseverance, determination, and resilience. I pray to God daily, but there are moments when it feels like I’ll never get the chance to perform or win. I’m grappling with pressure from feelings of discouragement, insecurities, and envy.
My fellow musicians and fans know my heart. I’ve learned so much from my journey, even if it's been tough. 2024 has been a challenging year, and I feel like I’ve lost so much. But I refuse to give up. I’m serious about pushing through. There were attempts to undermine me, but now it’s time to get back to work.
I’m left feeling uncertain about my path—like I’m slipping away from success. My good fortune seems to have vanished, and my achievements have turned into setbacks. But here’s the truth: I did my best. I truly gave it my all. We can call it a mix of procrastination and progress, failure and success. The drawing board is calling my name. Throughout these years, I’ve remained steadfast.
In conclusion, being an artist has never been easy. My life is a testament to that, and every piece of advice I’ve received has held truth. I’m grateful to God every day, and I’m ready to be resilient as I step into 2025.

Keep doing your thing man. The awards will come in time. I didn't win anything big until I was in my 50's. After that, the flood gates opened and the accolades started to come. All things happen according to God's timing. Not our own. You got this man. Much Respect, Stoneman

Have you ever tried the street-busking thing? An old friend of mine Steve - Travelin Blue did his daily gig on Monroe St. in Greek town and made some valuable contacts just playing on the street corner. G-Love discovered him there and actually took him on tour for about half a dozen shows. (Then he let him go cause Steve was winning over the audiances more than he was) He was also going to be featured in a film about street performers and was collaborating with a well known Canadian artist who's name escapes me at the moment. And these contacts all came from playing live on the corner at Monroe & St. Antoine. Steve was the real deal alright..

Shawn my Brother....
It's Only When You Stop Trying, That You TRULY Fail.
Never Stop, Bro...you doing Great and keep Gettin' Better. Grab it by the Throat and MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Read what Edison said when they asked him about inventing the Light Bulb.....
“When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this - you haven't.”
“Negative results are just what I want. They’re just as valuable to me as positive results. I can never find the thing that does the job best until I find the ones that don’t.”

Ever hear the song, "I'm Your Puppet"??? I knew the guy who sang the lead vocals on it. He always believed he failed in music because nothing of any consequence came later. Nothing was further from the truth though as I always reminded him, he was a great as anyone else out there..
And how's this for missed opportunities??? I personally knew the music director at MTV who was deciding what videos went into rotation in it's very early days and he often pleaded with me.., "I can make this happen now, but if you're not willing to do it then I can't help you.." (Meaning break out the guitar and submit my own video for "consideration..") Truth be told though I knew better that I lacked the voice and any offer would have been very second rate so I didn't waste anyone's time or embarrass myself. I can craft a decent song every once and awhile and I'm good in the studio but that's the real extent of my talent.
Reason I'm sharing this is that the truth be told, the most talented artists are almost always overlooked and it's often making the right contact that breaks a career. Without Barry Gordy Motown would never have happened and without Brian Epstein there would have never been The Beatles as we knew them or "The British Invasion" as it also happened.. The main reason Madonna became so huge was because her first oder of business was to get to personally know the industry execs who later opened the door for her.., that is no dumb blonde..
And for any artist wanting to make it big, the best first choice to make might be moving to LA, Nashville & NYC and make those type of contacts. As I told my very gifted singer Dwight, he should have moved to Nashville rather than Detroit, he might be a very well known singer now. About 10 years back I traveled to Nashville to buy the last car owned by Phil Everly after he passed. And who do I make the transaction with? It's Venetia Everly, Don Everly's daughter. It turned out she was also working for a large publisher on Music Row and I decided to not waste this opportunity and push a local artist in her area named Serena Matthews and played her one of her songs called "It's Too Quiet" that we had recently recorded. She did like the song but she was really taken by my singer Dwight's voice. If only again had he moved to Nashville again 20 years earlier rather than wasting away in Detroit he very likely would have gone onto big things..
So wherever your music journey takes you, you're just as good as anyone, don't ever forget that. Do it for the love of it and hopefully you'll meet that right person one day who will open the right doors for you.
