Charlie Chaplin, Ben Franklin, statue of liberty
Statue Of Liberty
added a new verse to 'statue...'
"torch held high, thorny crown, every seasick woman and manchild,
look around, right on deck, beacon of hope, majestic and mild..."
=========================================
Charlie Chaplin
charlie provided comic relief during the Depression, with movie like "City Light," and "Modern Times", founded united artists company, an early advocate for unions...
charlie's back story...his father was an out-of-work actor, and perhaps an alcoholic, who died when Charlie was a child. His mother was incarcerated in a mental hospital. so they sent Charlie to the "workhouse," kinda like a reform school. hope it's fair to say, that Charlie's movies represent a victory over a squalid, desperate start. his characters, "the kid," and "the tramp" clearly draw on his early days, though Charlie seems to grow with each film, remembers where he came from...
hope to add a few verses later in the song, relating to his films, time'll tell.
humbly,
steve
Ben Franklin
note...I didn't know Ben Franklin was a science pioneer, and invented the lightning rod, saved many colonial houses and barns from fires. also invented the bifocals. also invented the franklin stove.
also mapped the gulf stream..."a father of our country"
also, among the earliest abolitionists (Quaker spokesperson in 1750s)...

Stopped by your page and enjoyed both songs Steve. Also, thanks for posting the Chaplin film. I remember that one! It still makes me laugh. Charlie was a comedic genius and a wonderful filmmaker.
I think Ben was from another planet. When you consider the things he did at the time he did them, its just hard to believe he was from this world.

thanks, Stoneman.
yeah, like your comment about ben, how did he do all that??? especialy back then?? on the other hand, having said that, he was a humble guy, basically, also, very modern about religion, encouraging many, discouraging none, a pluralist. the Salem witch trialsNOT...
work in progress, time'll tell...
