Quantum Evolution, music, life
A few notes from a book called 'Quantum Evolution.'

Froelich's 'energy pump' gives systems energy to behave coherently e.g. a laser, that enables a wave function and quantum processing.

Quantum measurements generate classical signals if amplified sufficiently.

Resonating frequencies, 'soft spots' may be key to quantum effects in cells e .g. Ella Fitzgerald breakin' a glass with her voice, relates mostly to frequency not so much volume.

'Weak electromagnetic fields' have been shown to have surprising effects on biological systems e.g. changing gene expression. It is extremely hard to account for how these low strength fields exert their influence by any conventional electromagnetic induction effects. However, phase cohenrence inside cells is 'exquisitely sensitive' to electromagnetic perturbations and therefore possible that coherent oscillations inside living cells are target of these low strength fields.

Quantum processing is much faster than classical processing.

This processing seems to give living organisms the ability to initiate specific actions, including new mutations.

Part of quantum processing involves superposition i.e. parallel universes, being in two places at once. Also, entanglement i.e. a kind of ESP on a cellular level.

New relationships between physics and biology due to quantum processing.

Amplifying resonances are the heart of the matter. Kinda like IAC lol...

Very cool i have been reading about string theory which is based on resonating strings that also exist in parallel or holographic dimensions. One of the most inclusive of these is the 11-dimensional M-theory, which requires spacetime to have eleven dimensions as opposed to the usual three spatial dimensions and the fourth dimension of time.

A problem exists in that Electro magnetic force has never been fully explained. Which is one of the driving force,s behind the resonations. EMF is easily detected and measured but no-one has explained how it is made and where it come,s from. Maxwell,s paper,s on electrical theory goes some way to explaining it as drawing energy from outside our dimension. When they were testing his thoeries they noticed that electrical motor,s were producing over unity compared to the input. Where did this extra force come from?. This still has not been explained to any degree of finality. It does tie in with parallel universe,s and resonating frequencies. If this is true then perhaps our universe cannot exist without other dimensions or universe,s and that EMF force is the tidal or reasonant effect of the universe,s pulling and pushing against each other that,s my little theory. I,m no scientist i do enjoy reading about it very interesting article Steve

Well, my feelin' the takeaway from new millenium science is that unlike the newtonian clockwork model, there are extra rooms, possibly extra dimensions, extra variables, potential for expansion.

Potential for Revolution in consciousness???...

if string theory's correct, that matter's the vibrations given off by tiny, vibrating strings, like a giant, improvising guitar player, improvin' w the groovin'...

Rawk!!!....

p.s.
now where's my coffee???

pps

"magical complex numbers" is the title of chapter 4 of roger penrose's "the road To reality." penrose worked with stephen hawking many years.

"How is it that -1 can have a square root?"

The square of both positive and negative numbers are always positive.

So, square root of -1 leads to imaginary numbers (i), a pillar of quantum physics.

Through the looking glass...

ooOOoo, great, let's all start as cavemen or monkeys again. Surely, if we disregard all human knowledge from the last 3000 years or so, we can do better this time. Straighten it all out in a a decade or two.

Knot

Incidentally, you're annoying the crap out of me with those misplaced commas. I know it's some sort of signature, but it's like teeth on a chalkboard. When you combine it with a misplaced plural which doesn't even need an apostrophe, much less a comma, you make me want to screeeeeeeem.

But that might be what you want :)

***SOLITONS*** (bridge from the quantum to the real world)

Over one hundred and fifty years ago, while conducting experiments to determine the most efficient design for canal boats, a young Scottish engineer named John Scott Russell (1808-1882) made a remarkable scientific discovery.

'I was observing the motion of a boat which was rapidly drawn along a narrow channel by a pair of horses, when the boat suddenly stopped - not so the mass of water in the channel which it had put in motion...a rounded, smooth and well-defined heap of water, which continued its course along the channel apparently without change of form or diminution of speed. I followed it on horseback, and overtook it still rolling on at a rate of some eight or nine miles an hour, preserving its original figure some thirty feet long and a foot to a foot and a half in height. Its height gradually diminished, and after a chase of one or two miles I lost it in the windings of the channel..'

The 'Wave of Translation' itself was regarded as a curiosity until the 1960s when scientists began to use modern digital computers to study non-linear wave propagation. Then an explosion of activity occurred when it was discovered that many phenomena in physics, electronics and biology can be described by the mathematical and physical theory of the 'soliton', as Scott Russell's wave is now known. This work has continued and currently includes modelling high temperature superconductors and energy transport in DNA, as well as in the development of new mathematical techniques and concepts underpinning further developments.

Solitons show up in Orch OR theory of consciousness, though lightly mentioned. Here's a theory of consciousness that accounts for 'holistic understanding' that outleaps classical 'neural net' models of consciousness. Basically, via microtubules, 'ordered water' in cells, and solitons, tranforms the 'wet, warm, noisy' environment of the brain into a coherent quantum processor, with global properties.

Solitons will prove to be the wild card that bridge the gulf between the collapse of the wave function, to classical reality. Also, are proving important in modelling DNA formation and replication, the emergent properties we call life.

note: Go ahead, laugh lol. Well, the last remark in roger penrose's book "The Road To Reality" is "perhaps what we mainly need is some subtle change in perspective, something that we all have missed..."

Hi Steve

I don't know if you have read Dan Simmons science fiction books, In his "Ilium" series he expands a lot of the ideas you point to into classical greek mythology. It works really welI.
i am sure you would enjoy them if you haven't already. I know Marc Ceccotti did as he wrote a song inspired by the series
Odysseus is awake

the books are good as its shows applications of the concepts to explain the mythic. There is a lot of deep stuff in Greek and other myth that may in the end not be so mythical.

Did Roger Waters, from Pink Floyd, take up movie directing lol...(fun video, paul)

I haven't a clue about dan simmons "Ilium" series, but I do like classical mythology, wonderful stories about Hercules, Ulysses, the Trojan War, gods and goddesses, and their interactions with mortals, so many.

Didn't Cream sing a song "Tales of Brave Ulysses"?

"Music" comes from "Muses," who were "nine in number, the daughters of Zeus and Memory..."

"Their hearts are set upon song, and their spirits are free from care. He is happy whom the Muses love. For though a man has sorrow and grief in his soul, yet when the servant of the Muses sings, at once he remembers not his troubles. Such is the holy gift of the Muses to men..."

The Greeks were into Quantum mechanics. Zeno's paradox. Achilles always has half the distance to go to catch the tortoise. You can chop up the distance between Achilles and the tortoise infinitely. The distance become vanishingly small as the number of divisions approaches infinity.

Yet Achilles catches the tortoise. So the infinite sum of infinitely small numbers is finite. This concept is known now as Complementarity. There are multiple Quantum models for reality. What this means is Science has no answer to the question "What is Reality" Science is as bad as religion. Its pure idealism.

No one understand space. Time is probably an illusion. Time may just be motion. Aristotle was executed for refusing to build weapons of mass destruction for the Romans.

Hi Nigels,

Yes Achilles catches the tortoise.

1 = 1/2 + 1/4 +1/8 +1/16...

An infinite progression can add up to a finite sum.

Hey, I might note that two IAC songs recently on the IAC hitline, and cool songs to boot, touch on greek (or greco-roman) myths.

"Swan" by Selon Recliner touches on the myth of Leda and the Swan lyrically.

Also, "Intervention" by Dame throws in the River Lethe, river of forgetfullness...

Well I remember Ms. Curtis, berating our 9th class when we could not figure how ancient myths connect to culture..."Atlas Tires...The next time your parents get their tires fixed over there, you'll remember..."
