The Glowing Pumpkin
It was an early evening crisp fall night. The fog was so thick I could barely see the trees in front of me even though there was a full moon.
I decided to take a shortcut across a field that was near my little house in the middle of the forest.
There was a slight wind blowing but enough to make the leaves on the trees rustle with anticipation.
As I was walking I could hear an owl hooting in the distance.
I got about halfway through the field and noticed something glowing in what looked like a crop circle.
I went over to investigate and saw a large pumpkin glowing red.
As I approached, I noticed the pumpkin was changing colors.
Red, green, yellow and I could hear a slight hum coming from it.
I went up to the pumpkin and reached out and touched it.
To my surprise the pumpkin changed to what looked like a glass sphere.
And..... it started getting bigger!
I was very curious and scared at the same time and thought about running away but I stayed.
As the sphere continued to grow I would back up a little each time it got bigger.
The sphere grew until it had filled the entire crop circle and then it stopped!
All of the colors it was changing to now started swirling around and mixing.
I looked around and yelled out can anyone else see this! Then I remembered I was in the middle of the woods by myself.
The sphere was still humming and also making this clicking sound.
All of a sudden what looked like an oval door appeared on the sphere!
Now by this time my curiosity had gotten the best of me so I walked up to the door and touched it.
With a giant whooshing sound the door opened!
Well I said to myself I have to go in, so I entered this doorway.
As soon as I went in the door closed and disappeared!
Now what am I going to do I thought?
I frantically felt around the side of the sphere, trying to trigger a door but nothing was happening.
I stopped and said calm down Steve and think straight. So I started looking around the inside center of the sphere and found a small red indentation in the floor. It looked big enough for me to step on... so I did.
I heard a small sound like the way the old Star Trek doors opened and a round shaft about 8 inches in diameter rose up. Whoa! I have to say that was pretty cool! It rose to about five feet and stopped.
I starting seeing some shapes on the shaft and they were getting brighter!
Finally I could make them out and yes I know this, it's our planet's and our moon!
All in the correct colors too and I believe in the correct distance from each other just on a smaller scale.
Well, I'm looking at this panel and still looking around for an exit and decided I would rather do anything than nothing.
I walked up to the panel and picked the moon and pressed it. At first nothing was happening but after a few seconds, the moon shape looked like it was sinking into the shaft. Wow!
A slight hum filled the room and I heard a sound above my head. I looked up and this fog like spray came down on me at a pretty quick velocity. I held my breath wondering if it was toxic but of course had no choice but breathe so I did.
Whew! I was ok! I stood there for a second and noticed the humming had stopped. Then the shaft sunk back down out of sight Now I'm right where I started except now I'm glowing white!
At that moment I saw the oval door appear! Yes! I am so outta here! As I walked to the door I heard a low voice say "Go out the portal" What? Oh, you mean the door? "Yes the door"
Ok with me so I walked up to the eh portal and it opened and I jumped out as fast as I could! I heard the portal close and turned around.
Oh my God! I'm on the moon!
I could not believe this at first but seeing the earth in the distance was enough proof for me.
Then I remembered I had no suit on, but here I was standing on the moon in comfort.
I went up to the sphere and said hello? Nothing.
Is anyone there? Nothing.
Oh man! I tried the door and it would not open!
So I tried one more response..... question?
I heard that low voice say "You have a question? "
Yes, how did I get here?
"You used the portal"
How long can I live in this condition?
"You have no condition, you are protected by the portal."
How long can I stay here?
"As long as you like, You are in a time protected state by the portal."
How far on this moon can I go?
"You can go wherever you like."
When and how do I get back to earth?
"Just say portal open."
How much time do I have?
"There is no time in the portal"
All right now that I know the basics I'm going to look around.
I was able to jump and run very far and very fast!
I went to the top of mountains and the bottom of craters.
The stars looked so close I could almost touch them.
It was a fantastic feeling actually being on the moon!
I finally got back to the portal and decided it was time to make sure this thing really worked.
Portal open! The door opened.
I went in and the door closed behind me.
The controls were already in the center of the sphere but this time there was one of the earth. So I pressed the earth button. .
Everything seemed fine and the mist cloud covered me again but my body stopped glowing.
Question? "Yes"
Who are you? "I am a portal. I will be here every night in the month you call October.
Many such journeys are possible."
Then my head started spinning and I passed out.
I awoke in my bed, fully clothed!
I got up made coffee, threw some logs on the fire and sat down in my living room chair.
Did I dream all this? Was it real? ......
Well, I' not sure what happened or if it even did but I plan on going back tonight to find out.
