Yeah. And I earned the right.
I spent years and years in the wilderness of not being able to do what I felt I could. Years.
People told me to have someone else do the singing. But singing is the primary thing I do music for. So I kept after it for years and years. Still do. That's the focus of a lot of changes I'm putting myself through right now.
Anyway, it's not an easy voice to get right, and I can really be lousy. I can't take it for granted like many of my angel voiced friends.
But when it's right it is one of my favorites.

I like my voice and i like about 90% of the singers on the iac as well.
Throughout the site there are also some world class voices especially from loads of the female artists.

Isn't that like asking if one likes their own pecker ... or peckerette ?
You only got one ... so what's not to like ?
... but I'll play along ... just for something to do while dinner is settling ...
My voice ... or the sound of it ... has changed through the years, as I suppose the same happens in most folks ...
It's always funny when I hear people speak of Bob Dylan and the people out there that try to imitate his voice ... I never ever tried to do so ... but many through the years have told me I sound like him ... and I suppose I do to a certain degree ... but it used to be a lot more so ... now I think it has changed enough that I could possibly break away from those comparisons ... but still the comparisons happen ... Ive also been accused of sounding like Tom Waits and Townes Van Zandt lately ...
I guess it's all fine and good ... I just think I sound like me ... I know there are range limits to my vocal, so I try to stay with-in those bounds ... yes, I'd like to hit some of those notes that I can't, but I don't lose any sleep over it ...
... and now we can get to the five voices in my head ... but then again those aren't my voices ... or are they ... hmmmmm

I'm getting used to it.

Silly answer to a silly question.
Who care's what we think about our voices?
One cannot judge their own voice. The deaf hear themselves when they speak.
Dumb. Sorry.

Yes I like my "singing" voice, Sometimes I get a pretty good sound that surprises me.
I don't like my speaking voice, to this day when I hear me speaking on tape or video I ask internally "Do I really sound like that?"
I am more comfortable with my singing voice. I received a review to the effect if they heard a song on the radio they would know it was me. That means alot, I took it to mean I had a somewhat distinct voice... which is good.... I think :) Maybe they meant I would know it was you because of how it sucks :) I have received more positive comments on it then negative, so Yes I am happy with it.
"I'm taking a poll".... oh, sorry Banana, a simple yes would have sufficed eh?? :)

I think I do better with harmonies rather than actual vocals as far as my own music. The songs I write aren't really all that bad, I think I just don't do them justice.
The problem I have is very few people know exactly what I want.
Then again, if I'm singing at gig and I'm into the 3rd and 4th sets, my voice gets a lot raspier and I kinda like my lead vocals then.

I go back and forth...
I like my voice live, when I do my solo guitar thing, but in recording i've always struggled with it really, I never seem to get the exact emotion that I'm trying to get...
there's only a few really that came out in a way that I feel good about, and they are generally the simplest sorts of pieces.

You know, like so many others, I've grown accustomed to the sound of my voice. I also know that I have to be very careful when recording not to get out of the "comfort zone" where my voice is most effective. Since I don't have a great singing voice, careful execution is what makes it most effective.
Also, I think my voice has actually improved over the years, or maybe I'm just better at controlling what little skill I have.
Good question....

Well I think this is a good question because a lot of singer's don't like their voices...John Lennon used to double track his voice I read...well I used to hate my voice and thought I could not sing most of my life...until someone heard me at a party & all that changed...now I like my voice...sometimes I cringe when I hear it,. but a lot of the time I like it....and a lot of other people seem to like it, which makes me very happy, because I have discovered that I love to sing!!

I like my voice, except when it sounds shitty.
but, I use it all the time, both in my day job, and my dream job of singing professionally...so I've had to learn to work with it, when it's misbehavin'....
If it's especially hoarse, for a performance, it's necessary to drop an octave at times... that sucks.
But MOST of the time = Yup. Dig it. It can do very cool things, when it's behavin'.

But of course YOU might not like my various voices, and you're entitled to your opinion.

To Sam
I remember telling you once that on my first listen i couldn't stand your voice but then grew to love it. i think that if total sincerity comes through in the voice then it will be loved by those that can feel the sincerity.
When Anjuli sang your song it was quite beautiful because she has a beatiful voice but it was the sincerity in her voice that made the listen excepional.
What i suppose i am trying to say that as Beth said.
"beauty is in yhe eye of the beholder"
If we can listen and look for and feel what the singer is singing and we feel something then in theory they have done the desired job and therefore they are a good singer.

I'm thinking back to the 1st time we all heard a recording of our voices - the universal reaction seems to be - 'hell, that ain't me' Then you kinda get used to it over time and begin to accept it and work with what you got....... 'course the band don't let me sing anyway, so y'all can only speculate as to why not........... he he he!

Amen Silverwood DIrgek's voice is amazing and SUCH a broad range I'm very JEALOUs of that! I've had to learn to work with a MUCH more limited range, so always amazed at people who can produce ANY note from their vocal chords.
She was truly an amazing artist.

I cringe when I hear myself speak, on answering machines etc.
Yes I find my voice quite annoying at times. Yet, I keep on singing. Perhaps I just like to annoy people. Singing is fun. As long as they keep on hiring me, I guess I'll keep on singing.

My speaking voice? Like nails on chalkboard sometimes.

Tonight I really enjoyed my own voice! Playing at an informal Jam at a local venue. Just singing for fun (didn't intend to sing just to play guitar but perhaps it was inevitable).
My voice has improved over the years, I listen to recordings of earlier stuff I did and really cringe, I used to shout to much. I suspect in afew years I'll feel the same about my current batch of recordings. As I get more experienced I get the better I can judge my limitations, choose better keys etc etc.
A recent change is that I've started to want beter monitors at gigs, I never used to need them but I've realised that that causes me to force my voice especially in the lower registers makeing it growly when I don't want it so. Growly is good on demand, but not without choice.
Another new challenge for my singing, harmonies. Started to worj out just afew with The sally Strawberry Revue. I'm finding I can get them at our quiet rehearsals, but when the volume goes up (and it doesn't go upmuch we aren't a loud band) I lose it and can only sing in unison (better than out of tune, but not what I'm aiming for..)

My voice surprises me. My talking voice and singing voice are very different. I'm like Jeff, when I hear my speaking voice... I say, blah... is that me? Its very nasal sounding and can be loud and firm.
But when I sing, it takes everything I have inside to bring it out... but when its out, oh my, this whole other dimension of me comes out... I often say my singing voice is the saving grace of my speaking voice. Its a strange and mystical experience for me... and one I don't take for granted.

Very interesting question. For many years, I despised my voice as being to raspy and as most music we listen to is sung by clear, range dynamic and very emotional voices, we get a stereotype of the perfect singer in our heads and then we try to emulate it. Our voices are unique and by trying to emulate someone elses voice, we tend to lose who we are in the music. No matter what we sing, we need to always be ourselves...making the song ours so to speak. By using our own emotions and feelings, we can make a song be exactly what we want and though lyrics are important, though voice quality is often judged, the very best singers are those who can emote and make you feel as if you are part of the song.
Up until very recently, all of the songs I wrote were songs that bordered on Rock, Country and Blues...never really did ballads as I didn't feel I had the voice for it but then I wrote a couple of ballads that I sang myself. One of them has just taken off and the reason, I feel, is because it is so personal to me. Sure, I could have had another singer do the song and perhaps it would be even bigger than it is now but these are my emotions in this song...no one else can duplicate that, ya know?
I sing because I am. Good voice, Bad Voice, it all really doesn't matter. There will always be critics and there will always be those who praise. I am now comfortable with my voice and can even listen to myself sometimes. In my opinion, we need to sing with whatever the good Lord gave us so we can continue to be the individuals we are.
My 2 cents worth...
