Why reviews or blurbs help artists, and how it helps us as station managers/writers
Howdy y'all
I love listening to the music here, and even though I dont always do as many reviews as I have done, yet it is something I feel is important to both the listener and the performing artist.
What it does for the listener, this is my take:
It gives you the ability to express your feelings on how the music grabs you , makes you feel and how the story telling or structure of the song influences you as a listener. I find it fascinating how the story teller and the music unwinds, the lyrics woven into the musical journey.
As a station manager and as a musician I always learn more if I lean into the song. by that I mean, not just listen, but understand and evaluate the whole essence of the writers concept and what compelled them to write a story with the music.
Of course one can get too detailed in analyzing, because music is art and magic and tones and colours
Some music is organic, completely organic, just a guitar (piano) and a singer playing and sharing their story with an honest open and done in its purest form, if one can do that, and are pro and good at it, then they can do it in a bigger platform with all the frills and help from other musicians, the truth of the matter if a musician can lay down the chops and sing and get on the vibe on their own, with a polished presentation they are pro and the ones to really appreciate
anyways I ramble
I have a lot more to say about this since I am a musician a teacher (retired) was a promoter and did reviews and evaluated peoples bands singers music and some made the cut with me to promote them and many did not, it was a tough decision to turn people down and tell them they still need to work on their chops and improve themselves, its a tough profession not meant for everybody to play live perform and get ones mojo happening and building a career
anyways, any thoughts , I know there are many fine stations managers ( musicians) here and think this would be a good subject to discuss and build upon
