I Liked This Song of Mine Okay at First...
...but then it has grown itself into first place. I listen to it all the time. It's nothing I haven't posted before, but anyway, I dig it.
Actually it's not my song alone. The drummer, Matt Perez and the bass player Sean Hathorn are really the main forces of the track and we made all that spontaneously together.

Playing the Rules
Well, the gates are open and Hell is empty
devils are here and they have Humpty Dumpty
coming in clear hanging by a thread
engineered many dreams in their heads
Holy Holy Ghost keep us out of the red
put you almost into the black
coast to coast spending much cash
riding that wave ignoring the math
nothing to save ignoring the science
home of the brave and the new appliance
Emerson's friend self-reliance
can anybody lend what we really need?
Can anyone pretend their skin won't bleed
'til their home's underwater at a crashing speed
you was big talker like you wrote the book
now you're giving that lawyer a second look
'cause math is hard even for crooks
teach to get your guard up
after a while or get scarred up
and forget the smile play 'em close
that's style when someone devotes
and the time moves slow and all the nuts and bolts
and how tight they go but don't become a tool
keep an animal flow wisdom of fools
Playing by the rules
tearing 'em down
build something better right in this town
So don't be a tool keep an animal flow
wisdom of fools knowledge of clowns
playing the rules tearing them down
build something better wish my town
had the North Coast weather what was that you say?
Whatever, whatever, just let the bass play
Playing by the rules...
However, whenever, whoever, wherever
just let the bass play deep to my bones
gotta get away gotta come on home
honey it's me lover of stone
and equality digger of time
seeking quality and a couple of dimes
I could rub together can't fall behind
can't never can't never and soon to be providing
whatever, whatever and every day arriving
and that's it that's it that's it
playing by the rules...
Whatever, the clever can think of something better
however, whoever, whenever we're together
forever and ever, whomever and endeavor
whichever
whomsoever put this thing together
whomsoever put this thing together

Right off, with the guitar, I am getting a very Grateful Dead vibe, but then it starts mutating into funk with the sampled horns.
I'll be honest and tell you that, like your first reaction, I like it okay. It's not my favorite of yours, but I do like it. It's just different from most of the stuff that you. Not a bad thing, but I love what you normally do.
I'm gonna add it to a station or two and go back and listen to it some more see if it grows on me.
Tell you what, though, I know my Deadhead wife will love this right off!

Ha! Thanks for listening, you two. It occurred to me later, though, that the correct word would be 'whosoever.' Which is also a tasty word.
Grateful Dead? Yikes. I like them because of Jerry's voice and guitar, but I'm thinking Marvin way more than Jerry.

I'm kinda with Todd..Its not my favourite i've heard -Aesthetically (for me) the kinda rappin' verse goes on too long for me to love it (tho i can see why you did it like that ) but saying that - the groove/bassline is fantastic -the poetry is soooo cool n effortless and the little chorus release when it comes is beautiful n fresh..
To be honest -you're one of those rare artists i've never actually heard a track i've disliked by -only ones i like/love more than others

Thanks, guys. I guess I feel it's my place in life to apply wa peddle to everything that crosses my path.
I'm still just loving this one, but it's also the last thing I've been able to work on for quite some time. It might get thrown for the next one if the next one ever gets a shot.
