Standards, by a wide margin, some of the most amazing melodies and voicings come from the 30's through to the 50s, although i have re arranged a lot of songs of the Beatles into jazz and easy listening styles and other artists from the 60s and 70s.. So much music in so many genres, I do love then all. So it is hard to say one is best, but I do love Standards . so that is my fave and gets my vote

Well, I'm not asking for any favs necessarily. The four musics I listed are just what tends to get the most of my attention.
The Beatles are a favorite of mine, sure, but they don't tend to get a lot of my attention.

My original post looks like I'm asking you all to pick between those four, but that was just my list of what gets the most of my musical attention.

haha, I get it ,
I do love Hip Hop, it is amazing rhythmic geniuses at work
True country or old country is what I grew up on from my dad
Soul, guess i am not educated enough in this to appreciate, but still try to get into
Standards. thats me full on
Classical. my foundation that has given me insight to all the above, structure of music ,the complexities and rhythmic and counterpoint aspects, the melodic components, etc my moms influence
Jazz sometimes a passion, can be crazy complex, covers a broad spectrum of sounds and rhythms and can be hard to get into for some

I listen to the hip hop guy Drake a lot lately. He seems to have a certain key I needed. Can't get enough as of late.
Again, I was trying for what actually lands on your stereo a lot. I figure we all respect and love all kinds of stuff, but what makes it into your speakers the most?
I think I have been surprised by how little I listen to rock even though I like it plenty.

Recent listening :
60s MOD N SOUL...Am starting to need something different tho as i've just gorged on this music incessantly for 10 years now..Dunno how much more there is to find..Have learnt the beauty n freedom of the doo-wop sequence and how much space n freshness there is in simple changes like A to E..How melody and charm are great things to be cherished
FOXYGEN - Kids with some magic n creativity..Kill Art and Take The Kids Off Broadway are both wonderful albums and i can listen to them both all the way thru ..They love 60s n 70s music
MOZART - Havn't listened to alot of classical - but Mozart s really good..Marriage Of Figaro overture and Piano Concerto No. 21 - Andante suit me fine..They're both short super melodic n atmospheric n don't waste a second..I don't have the patience or desire for whole symphonies..Love Sugarplum Fairy and Camille Saint-Saëns - Aquarium both incredible too..Only 2 or 3 minutes each !
Classical music i a whole new territory to explore tho..

My attention? A good busker will grab my attention. Ethnic and world music, top shelf orchestral and electronic music, great jazz improv. Well constructed songs with powerful arrangements. A well-tuned muscle car.

I love east Indian music, ethnic music as Larree pointed out is very evident here in our province, there is something that attracts me to their music, and especially the music videos ,exceptional stuff. We have a lot of Indian Pakistani and Eastern cultures here in British Columbia. quite a dominant presence. anyways. cheers and let the music bring peace and love
