"Tools" -First Song Off New Album "Wooden Soul" by The Pawns
I was gonna drop the whole album here tonight, but then I noticed that the "New Songs" display on the front page will only display one at a time, so I will load the album up once a week or whatever length of time you need to wait before it will show on the front page.

Seriously your best song ever, had your trademark warmth, on top of that there was some creative chord action in there that took me into a state of bliss. I can't believe I met you so long ago and after all this time, you continue to get better and better.

Tools: Excellent craftsmanship and atmosphere as well as VERY unique vocal style. You have a "one in a million" voice that is authentic, soulful and raw, poignant and quirky. It's a true blessing for a singer-songwriter to have a voice that trippy. It's a powerful tool and you use it well.

Hey, thanks, Richard. It’s meaningful to me to hear that from a man with musical power.
I know you like to use a lot of great guest vocals, but “Forever Young” shows us you have a voice with rich character.
A voice like yours, a voice like mine, you gotta build everything around where that voice is at home. We can’t just do everything that comes to mind, and so many things do come to mind. Voices like ours need a landscape where they can carry the feeling and not get crushed out.
So that’s where Wooden Soul is at. That and an intense devotion from Matt and I to grooves and beats.

@Bob - Tom Obrien also has a unique voice. There's a bunch of songs (a CD) on your page by Tom Obrien and the Pawns. Are you and Tom in the same band? I'm confused as to who's who in this line up and the division of labor. It's an interesting collaboration for sure.

Well, my wife’s brother, Matt Perez, and I have been making music as “The Pawns” for a very long time. He plays the drums and percussion.
Tom O’Brien is a friend of ours from way back in time, and we like to work with him under the name “ Tom O’ Brien and The Pawns.” Then we’re having him as vocalist, and that stuff is real fun. We put that album on both our sites to increase chances of getting heard.
But there is also a project up here at IMP where we three work together and Tom and I are both doing vocals and there are lots of harmonies. We called that band “Dreamtown.”
Tom also appears on some of The Pawns’ stuff usually singing backups.
Tom and I write together sometimes, and that’s a lot of fun.
We all live hours from each other. We’d get a lot more going if we lived in the same town, but when we do work together we are mostly in my little studio together.

... and, oh yeah, two of Tom’s life long friends, Jay Quibodeaux (bass) and Greg Murai (keys) appear on some tracks on the O’Brien album. Great musicians. We would have gladly had them on all the tracks if we coulda got them.
