Its a massively ambitious thing to create a totally magical album that would sit alongside-and hold its head up-with your personal favourites of all time...
Not only have you gotta have a bunch of 10 or 12 inspired songs, you've gotta get the performances and the production exactly right...AND those songs have gotta compliment each other and sequence well to make a completely satisfying whole that takes the listener on a journey from beginning to end...
For my taste-altho there's loads of albums i love-i can actually only think of 2 albums that i always want to listen to from beginning to end
Love's Forever Changes and Bowie's Hunky Dory...
Sgt Pepper would make it except for 'Within You Without You' which i want to skip..
Alladinsane has the mincing cover of 'Lets Spend THe Night Together which sometimes bugs me..
Ziggy Stardust's title track annoys me abit sometimes-just 'cos its so overplayed i guess..
The White Album might actually be my favourite of all time-but thats because ,strangely,i love its flawed quality-its kinda haunted sunshine childhood vibe and the incredible diversity of styles, moods and sounds that i'd dearly love to emulate.. its got such fabulous segues of complete mood/sound changes too...Sexy Sadie-Helter Skelter-Long,long ,long....Just brilliant..
I've got alot of songs from last year i really like-but realise i havn't got a hope in hell of acheiving the sounds i want unless i become massively more skilled as an engineer/producer(prob not gonna happen) and get a real -good-drummer to play too...
I love the SOUND of The Beatles,Bowie,T.Rex etc...They had so much help from incredibly skilled people behind the scenes to create those sounds that no one really hears about tho..
Good luck with your dream tho Bob-I know from a past post your building your own studio and can get the sounds you want-You're an excellent songwriter too-so i guess its acheivable....
I think its great to have a goal like that :)
