Getting Ready to Bloom
Well, my incredibly long revamping of my studio could one day be finished. Meanwhile, though, all the recording gear is just stored away, and if you've never tried that, you should see what happens when you take away your ability to make the music creations for an extended time. Yes, you feel like you may go crazy, but also, with each passing week you feel the spark getting hotter. I've been too busy building (along with all the other stuff I gotta do) to even be writing, so there is this massive pressure building, and I feel like it's gonna rain big when I put this all back together.
It's funny when you're in this period after an album is done and you haven't done anything toward the next one yet. It's all so wide open. What I feel is textures and directions. What I mean is it's funny how the music begins to form before there actually is any music. Like on the last album, "Simple Machines," I was feeling what the album was going to be like before I'd written any of it. Like it just starts to grow in you as a mood, as a place, as a sound before you begin to even realize that music.
So I feel this stuff building, I have a feeling for what the album's like, but I haven't been able to do anything with it yet.
But man oh man, it's going to be so fun. I'll have the new soundproofed room, and I'll start using the Motif I bought but have never yet used. Plus I bought the mixing board and the compressors to mix the last album, but this time I'll have all that stuff during the recording. All that and a ton of time off from work pretty soon...
I also have a feeling I'll tap on a few guest stars for some choice bits...people from here, people from my real life...
Just feel like it's going to bloom, and I am having a hard time waiting.
Think it's going to have more to do with rhythm...might do my soul music album (you wouldn't believe how deeply I was into soul for about ten years)...except I really can't stay focused too much...I just feel the textures building...
Ever spent a lot of forced time away from your tools? It can build a lot of creative pressure.
So I'll be closing the walls soon. Guess I'll head home and finish the electric...
Coming soon...
