Covers anyone?
There's a few cover tunes I play live with just me and an acoustic that I add into my set lists.
Most all artists practice this in one form or another. This is one song I've always wanted to go a step further and record my own version.
From The Beginning
Anyone else have one they want to list, go for it!

You might not believe this but I've never played a cover song in my life! I started songwriting late in my life in my fifties and taught myself to strum and pick on guitar just to get the songs out - I don't know the names of the chords I use and I can't read tabs and I know it sounds awful but I just haven't got time to get round to it.
That doesn't mean I'm not influenced by other artists and love listening to a wide range of music and I've been told some of my songs remind them of some other song.
I just fiddle around with the strings till I find something that sounds like I hear in my head - I almost always get a beat and the words first then finally a melody before I work out how to play it. In some ways it's useful because the musicians I work with say my songs are a bit different because they generally don't follow a particular format or key etc - but I guess it would be good practice to learn some songs I like but there are so many and there's so little time......
I love hearing original music live or listening at home but it's great to hear covers down the pub or on a night out sometimes.......and hearing a different version of a loved song is wonderful as well - a completely different take on it....

Chandra,
Music is in your heart. Wanting to express yourself in one form or another is human nature. Determination is an asset of one's ability to artistically express yourself. Knowledge and experience are the tools. You have a "gift" when it comes to music.
Everyone here at IMP has a gift to one degree or another.
