Great post Gregg, thank you for doing this, awesome tune and I just appreciate this guys music, amazing songcrafter performer
Tom Northcott is a legend here in Vancouver BC Canada where he was born.
a Folk Rock artist who retired from music performing songwriting in the late 70s
He became known to a Canadian audience by his regular appearances on CBC Television's Let's Go music program in 1964-68. He was nominated as best male vocalist for a Juno Award in 1971. Later he co-founded Mushroom Studios in Vancouver and produced records. His hits are played regularly on Canadian classic rock radio stations.
"She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not" (1965) was by 'Tom Northcott & the Vancouver Playboys'; the Playboys were an established band that had played around British Columbia since 1962.Northcott joined the band on a tour in 1965, and issued the single on his own label. The 1966 singles were by 'The Tom Northcott Trio', which consisted of Tom Northcott, Chris Dixon (drums), and Rick Enns (bass). Four of his hits were, "1941", "Girl from the North Country", "Suzanne" and "Sunny Goodge Street".
.He co-founded Mushroom Records which began one of the powerhouses of rock music in the world with many significant bands recording there
He became a commercial fisherman and did that for many years and tried politics as well as a Progressive Conservative in BC but was unsuccessful in his run for attaining that goal
Tom later entered law school which spawned a career in maritime and admiralty law. He is now retired and living in Kamloops, British Columbia. He was inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2008

"Sunny Goodge street", a Donovan song, done so well by Judy Collins also, among my first college concerts, heard her do this live, in concert, ..."the magician sparkles in satin & velvet/ you gaze at his splendor with eyes you've not used yet/I tell you his name is love love love..."

Tom Northcott certainly has led a long and fruitful life, I wasn't aware of all his other interests.
My main listening station growing up was CKLW out of Windson, Ont and it seemed that "Suzanne" was in regular rotation for years. It's the kind of song I wish I could write or even come close to. It congers up so many different emotions and images, just simply beyond beautiful. Certainly one of the great classics of all time.

I love Judy Collins version of "Someday Soon" written again by another great artist from Canada, Ian Tyson. That country has it going on when it come to creating great music.

I like Neil Diamond's version of Suzanne a lot, it was one of the first songs I learned on piano.
Gregg, nice thread you started here. I've known you for awhile now and happen to know you love music as much as anyone here. I know I, and I think I speak for others too when I say I hope someday you start making stations here as a station manager. I'd enjoy reading the blurbs you write about various songs, you might really help some indies to get more exposure.

I lived in Vancouver for a while and played regularly in Gastown. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life and musical career. The people were so friendly and supportive. There was so much good will and creativity everywhere I went. It was a true artist paradise. It ranks at the top of my list along with being a member of IMP and enjoying the fellowship of so many like minded and talented artists.

Yeah, Windsor has always been special. Beautiful women, great food, the nicest people, always a nice atmosphere. Haven't been in Canada for awhile though, I worry they might haul me off to some forced vaccination center. I think your average Canadian would be far better off if Trudeau had a real job rather than allowing the WEF to interfere in their country like he has.
