A Song and a Story
Shortly before my dad died a few years ago, he told me that my great-grandpa O'Brien had been an engineer on the Transcontinental Railroad, which opened in 1869. In 1870, he moved to Oakland, California, the western terminus. I just imagined him leaving snowy New Hampshire and ending up in Oakland on a 70 degree winter day. No wonder he stayed! I just got to thinking about what that must have been like and this song just kind of wrote itself.

Tom - I’m surprised you haven’t gotten more responses to this epic song. You continue to create new and unique soundscapes that really paint cool pictures. This is a personal song, a history lesson, a present day song and a universal folk song all wrapped into one package. Reminds me of Pete Seeger but hipper. Do I hear a little Scotti influence on the fuzz tone lead guitar solo? Well done!

A nice sensitive folk song Tom, well crafted and well performed, will add to my station. :)

Richard, I've always admired the guitar tones you get, so if I was approximating your sound, I hope you take it as a compliment!
And thanks for the add, Chris. Glad you liked the song!

Added to Over The Moon - really excellent song - love the unusual chord sequences and the great "journey" feel - classic!
