Queen was my very first "Favorite Rock Group" ever! A friend of mine played their 1st album for me... the "Red" album( or "read" as I'd like to "spell" it! haha). And when I heard all of the biblical significance in those lyrics I just couldn't believe that I could finally adore a rock&roll band without feeling any remorse or guilt associated with it due to my love for the bible. I immediately went to Ogden Record Shop to buy a copy and while there I noticed a black t-shirt with the Queen logo on front in metal-flake red(just like the album I was buying). Needless to say I purchased the shirt... along with all of Queen's albums(A Day At The Races being the latest). The following year at school while walking the halls I'd notice people doing a "double-take" at my shirt and some of them would smile and say, "Oh, you like Queen, huh?" And I'd say, "Yep! They are the greatest musicians in all of rock and roll!". It wasn't until some months later when a guy pulls me to the side and says, "dude, I gotta tell ya... now, don't take this the wrong way or nuthin'... but when I read your shirt there, at first I thought it spelled queer! It is a nice shirt and all, but I felt like I had to tell ya this man. I mean, it's cool if ya wear it... I just thought ya might want to know. Plus THERE IS PINK IN IT TOO!". I said, "That's not pink it's fire-red!". He said, "yeah, but those metal-flakes have lot's of pink in 'em too!" I looked down at my shirt and noticed the shape of the "N" at the end of the word "Queen". There it was! That "N" sure did look a lot like a capitalized "R" with its squiggly right-hand side all spread out. Damn! I looked at the guy and said, "Thanks man! I'd never noticed that. Hell! My favorite shirt "literally"... SUCKS!!!". He said, "sorry 'bout that!". I said "No! DO NOT be sorry! THANK YOU!". He smiled and walked off as we went to our classes. And even after this... I still wasn't a "believer"(although I did stop wearing that shirt)! It wasn't until sometime a bit later that I actually found out about Freddie Mercury's sexual persuasions. Yep! I was VERY naive(trusting?) in the good ol' days...
