Greens hold balance of power after British Columbia election
The pollsters said it be tight and they were right, a dead heat between the left leaning NDP new democratic party and the right wing liberals, libs 43 seats, NDP 41 Greens 3 a majority was not met, so the greens hold the balance of power,
This is unprecedented anywhere in N. America where Greens have such a hold on being a king or queen maker.
Andrew Weaver of the Greens wants Big money out of politics. The influence of insiders and and those who gain favor from the government in power due to their donations of huge sums of cash The Liberals get huge monies from corporations and the NDP from the Unions, The Greens depend on the every day working jo and joe for funding. Also they want more in the way of carbon tax increases and improvement for Green initiatives and building sustainable enterprises and getting away from pipelines and develop renewable resources
This is a challenging time for BC with a minority government as a distinct and real possibility unless the absentee votes changes things as it stands Andrew Weaver seems to be the man of the hour and could change the entire landscape of politics as we know it and have BC divert its attention from its natural resources and into the unknown of developing green initiatives of renewable resources . We wait and see what the future holds.

Bryon, like most Americans, I'm ignorant about be most things Canadian.
I'm not sure how the provincial governments? work.
Are they parliamentary too?
How much Independence does one province have?
Obviously the cultural variety from province to province is remarkable, but I don't know how much governmental variety exists.
Please enlighten this dimwitted Yank.

We follow the British system, where the head of the party gets elected as premier if that party gains a majority, now recently as it stands, the Greens hold the balance of power due to the close results, Liberals, right wingers, New Democratic Party left leaning and Union backed with tons of money from them, Libs get Oil money, big corporate sponsors, Greens rely on people like me, the ordinary joe and jo. now as it stands, they are really in essence in control, yet, there are absentee ballots yet to be counted so that could changed everything, that happens in a few weeks.
If you wish to read about the history of this unique and west coast political crazy realm of how things have develop, here is a link, we are more aligned with the Washington Oregon California way of thinking , very progressive in everything. or trying to be, There was talk of breaking away from Canada numerous times and hooking up the states named starting our own unique way of doing things, the west coast is a funny place.
