Another lost and lonely, downtrodden anthem, filled with transient ghosts of the street and boxcar who are trying to find meaning upon the railroad tracks of life, doing what they can to sustain themselves, grasping at the empty air that once held dreams, all of them trapped at The Bottom of the World which many never see: a brotherhood of wrong turns in life, yet still held together by thin rays of hope. I am humbled once again by the jagged beauty and compassion that is Tom Waits and his mysterious band of wayward troubadour minstrels; they glide off the beat more graceful than a swan near the end of it's flight home... a home that is never in one place for very long.
