The Mispent
Sand (acoustic demo)
This is a somewhat rough demo, recorded beside the Basset hound to the right, one afternoon when I (Warrick - station autocrat !) was getting songs together for The Mispent's last record. It's a swimming off
into the sunset song inspired by Stevie Smith's wonderful poem "Not Waving But Drowning". The catharsis is in the change to that famous line in the lyric here to "Not drowning but waving". All the effort in the world isn't going to stop the sand slipping through your hands ! Band version also up on The Mispent page. Dedicated to all the men and women that love each other, but live on different shores and every now and then look across the sea and wonder what might have been.

Foy Vance
Indiscriminate Act of Kindness
This is work that a "Blue" era Joni Mitchell would be proud of. There's alot of hyperbole, it has to be said, amoungst the IAC station pages - but Foy Vance is one that deserves the highest critical acclaim. I know there's the odd drum - but for me this the best, most pure, pertinent piece of Art currently on IAC. Famous people included ! "..If you see someone defiled, look them in the eye and smile".

Don't Blame Me (It's the Market)
I'm a fan - couldn't decide which of The Rubrics fine pieces to add. Very dry, very good, very true. This is a man I'd like to have a beer with. And of course a busk with !

Janis Ian
Paris in your eyes
Ahh songwriting ! It's really not rocket science ! It's about not lying ! There's some Joni Mitchell "False Alarm" (actually the song's called "Amelia") and "The Last Time I Saw Richard" chords, but that's not what makes it such an honest and beautiful envelope of a song. It doesn't blame, it doesn't oversweeten, it perfectly reflects. Favourite line "We spoke of Michelangelo and believed each other's lies". Man that's good.
