Ooh - just give me a harpsichord, and suddenly it's 1968. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I love this to bits, and have to wonder how it hasn't ended up on a TV advert

More Than You Know
I'm not trying to pigeonhole the boy, but I reckon this is one for George Harrison fans. The pizzicato violins are just toe-tappingly twitchily addictive, and the keyboard key change sneaks up on you like someone with an eelskin full of sand

Friend of Mine
Swimming through songs I first listened to all those years ago, a real and unexpected side pleasure has been to hear how some artists have developed. A second, greater pleasure: reacquainting myself with artists who have gone on to do 'greater' things, but have stuck with IAC. Anyway, enough of that... I don't know if it's the lyrics (hypnotic in their repetition) or the percussion (weirdly, not ditto) that nails you to the seat until the last note breathes away, or is it that tremelo? Who cares? And why have I started talking? in Californian? or Australian? Anyhow (woah - very nearly said 'anywho' just then): a thing of rare beauty

Love Makes Me Cry
Hard to believe that it's just over six years since I first heard this on IAC. Apart from it being a good song, kudos has to go the backing band for their solid job, making it worth more than one listen for those who like this style. Sorry, what style, did you say? Listen and find out - 30 seconds should do it

I'd really liked to have been able to read the lyrics as I listened. Simple, classy folk, beautifully sung

Yet another 'I forgot how good this was' effort, especially for the mean wah pedal. I bet this lot are exceptional playing live, their excitement at performing spills over the edge of the speakers and ends up in a puddle of instruments all trying to find their way home. (They do, don't worry)

Yadda Yadda
Night starvation? Feed your inner Steely Dan with a slice of this. Top class brass (more trombone solos would make the world a better place), and a bassist whose fingers I could cheerfully break in a fit of jealousy. Again, I'd really like to be able to read the lyrics at leisure

I think it's fair to say that what they do might be an acquired taste, and it's probably unfair to expect listeners to judge them on just one track. But life isn't fair, is it... If you stick with this track to the end, you should probably give their other stuff a go. If not, don't. (Why can't life be that easy?)

Although metal isn't really my genre, Dwell always held my attention for some reason. So, my more philosophical friends: ponder on the apparent unfairness of the universe, where talent doesn't always count

Stop taking your medication for a couple of days, then listen to this. Now: ready? Can't you hear/see Marilyn Monroe doing it in some otherwise God-awful film? I love this to little mint balls

Everybody's Got A Song
It's been hard to be patient, working through the old Serendipity stations in strict chronological order, because there are some old IAC-ers I really wanted to hear again. At last: one of the prime suspects. So modest he could be English, the lad just keeps writing songs marinaded in truth and beauty, and isn't that all you need to know? Please, just stream his page, preferably with lights lowered and a glass of something close to hand

Omen and voices
Maybe not the easiest listen for everyone, but sometimes, a little effort brings big rewards. A reminder to guitarists everywhere that a million notes do not great solos make

Spacesuits are for spacemen feat. Anjuli
In my original review, I wrote that listening to Anjuli's vocals were like watching a drunk on a bike, and I stand by that. I also said that they are bang in tune, whilst sounding as though they are all over the place - ditto. Another one for the 'set lights to low and assume the horizonal' type of evening

Falling apart
The mighty Al: another milestone I've been looking forward to on this chronological journey. Wit, warmth, weisenheimer, wellie-wearing (I'm guessing) and even more dodgy alliterations, if I could just be bothered to find my thesaurus... Maybe your life is just too full to allow a few minutes off for joy, but at least give 'This Old Shirt' a try

Anna (featuring Raymond Porter)
Steve did some good stuff for IAC; but on this track, he's also managed to preserve a bit of the great Ray Porter, a selfless promoter of other people's music on this site, and an always willing collaborator, another IAC gift to its members
