How is everyone doing during this COVID 19 crisis
Radical approaches by our government, health agencies and education services schools and colleges shut down here in BC and many parts of Canada, looks like all schools will be shut down for the balance of the school year. Bars Theatres concerts cancelled ,the Rolling Stones are not coming to Vancouver in may that has been postponed. The key words and buzz words being used are social distancing and self isolation

We in BC have some amazing health care people, Bonnie Henry is our health officer and she has been a calming force along with our Health Minister Adrian Dix, I dont think Trudeau and his liberals are doing as good as a job as they could have initially although it has taken longer then we expected for our federal government to get a handle on things. Too bad, this could have been nipped in the bud sooner

I have noticed upon shopping for groceries that some people are being mad and crazy buying up every bit of toilet paper, hand sanitizer they can get their hands on,a few people are emptying shelves of essentials like sugar and flour dairy products canned goods,, some places like Walmart are insanely crazy, we shop at night, or early morning so as not to be around such madness.

Common sense has been left behind , maybe in their behinds.

Anyways, we are good, being careful during this challenging time

be well friends and take care

Hi Francesca, we will come through it all, must remain calm and do what we can to prevent the COVID 19 VIRUS from spreading. It is a war of sorts, and will take some time for it all to play out. perhaps by Summers end. This virus has an aversion to hotter weather apparently, so that is something that will help

I hope your grandmother has support and assistance she needs

As long as the health agencies are tackling it as best as they can, that is all we can ask
retired nurses and doctors are coming to the aid to support the overwhelmed health agency here.

It is indeed a challenging time

Gregg, this is an issue that is taking the lives of many people, it is a virulent corona virus and we here are seeing it ramp up daily and growing exponentially . Serious and troubling for sure, I worry for t he elderly who are more prone to the virus due to their underlying health issues which has compromised their systems.

Thankful to our health care workers doctors nurses and how our provincially government is stepping up to attend to the needs of those who have lost jobs due to this situation. massive support monetarily from our local, federal governments is going to assist those in desperate need

My income making business had a big event scheduled for this last Monday but just that day the state in question closed everything costing me 3 weeks work and a lot of money.

It's like the Twilight Zone around here.

That is a big hit indeed Father Time, sorry to hear this, its a bummer. I know many are suffering, I know all the musicians I have promoted in the past, and recently are taking a huge hit with events they play at, pubs, small venues restaurants being cancelled, for up to one month, or even more, perhaps two,. some play 2-3 times a week or 4 times, and that is their main source of income. They are being hit hard as well. who knows if some of these places will recover, or if some will even have live entertainment again. Eateries pubs restaurants small ma and pa shops are suffering with less people coming in due to being told to stay away from large crowds. the across the board challenges of small companies, lay offs are impending and happening., a lot have lost their jobs in the last few days and weeks since this virus started making inroads and many are sick and a number dying daily here in BC 3 today, down in Washington state, they are being hit hard with massive deaths and huge numbers who have this horrible virus. the economy is going to go into a deep recession that will take a few years to recover from.

After the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks I thought I'd never see anything worse than that in my lifetime. I guess I was wrong. Scott nailed it when he compared it to the Twilight Zone. Everything is so surreal that I can't wrap my mind around it. Francesca was right. It is a time of change. What kind of change remains to be seen.

Accept Adapt Adjust , we always find a way through these types of challenges. It is not unusual to have this type of thing occur, it is maintaining a positive frame of mind and perspective . My perspective is this, to continue to inspire, motivate and encourage people in whatever the situation is. Its going to be ok. we just have to get there

Hello friends

In New Zealand we have only 20 cases and no deaths yet----our borders are now closed, but schools remain open so far. As an Island we are better placed than some countries to protect our borders. Tourism has died---and China our biggest trading partner has stopped taking our products and they are sitting in Chinese Ports. Our Govt has introduced a 15 billion package to support employers to not sack 1000s of workers and the poor beneficiaries have been given a $25 rise in their benefits immediately. I'm thinking of all you guys living in Canada USA ,Gt Britain, France and Germany-----This is the big one, I hope we can all survive with our musical futures, online is the way forward---bless you Scott and all who sail on the good ship IMP.

There are risk for all older adults Bryon, especially when flu season comes around every year. And yes, Corona is nothing to ignore and maybe nothing to get in a panic about either. In S. Korea life is going on pretty much as normal, all stores & establishments are open and Covid infection rates are dropping dramatically.

https://www.aier.org/article/south-korea-preseved-open-infection-rates-are-falling/?fbclid=IwAR1jDqrC1XSX2qXoMFBaW8g8S9pCx0odG0K6IByQL9OLdiJKJ0EolLnJGMs

"After averaging over 500 new cases per day back to the last week of February, between Friday and Sunday the daily totals numbered 438, 367, and 248 according to the Korea Center for Disease Control.

How is it that without deploying the military or imposing widespread, enforced quarantine, the spread of coronavirus in South Korea is apparently slowing?

Actually, there’s a better question: why should the U.S. copy China rather than South Korea?

The United States is deep in the throes of an election season at present, and so haughty invokings of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are recurrent (if not always coherent). Of course, talk is generally cheap – and all the cheaper when coming from the mouths of politicians. It’s in times of crisis that the veracity of one’s commitment to liberty and human rights is laid bare. The difference between the U.S. and China is that China makes no pretense of reverence for liberty, nor for the inviolate elevation of individual rights.

South Korea is leveraging private property rights to thwart the spread of the virus, with building owners posting and enforcing “no mask, no entry” signs. (Just imagine how many Americans would react to being turned away or denied service from a favored destination at the sole discretion of the proprietor.)

Drive-through testing stations have been set up nationwide through which individuals, after a ten-minute test, are notified within a few hours if infected. A voluntary, self-diagnosis phone app was created in the early stages of the pandemic, and “living and treatment” centers set up in a “soft quarantine” spirit.

Mostly, though, South Koreans are acting based upon their experience with the H1N1 pandemic in 2009: they’re washing their hands frequently, making an effort not to touch their faces, wearing masks, and social distancing to the extent possible. The high level of personal technology access in South Korea makes the lattermost eminently practicable, given the ubiquity of video telecommunications and other such technology.

Contrast this with developments in the few days since Italy put its entire country under quarantine, active cases have risen from between 5,000 and 6,000 to over 8,500. Deaths from the coronavirus have risen in that same time period from 366 to 631 (all figures as of March 10th)."

Hi Bryon - thanks for asking - here in UK me and hubby in lockdown. Haven't been out for over a week and as I'm nearly 70 and asthmatic they're talking about having to self-isolate for 12 or more weeks!!

We can go walk in the park, countryside but not supposed to even meet with family or friends at all. Thank goodness we get on very well and have managed to get food etc reasonably easily so far. Supply chains are a worry but we're not stock piling at all as it's just not fair on people who don't have much choice re their supplies - we can order online even though there's a queue for slots.

I feel desperately sorry for health workers and those that just have to carry on in a risky environment and we all depend on them for everything like power etc.

We've been getting stuff done in the house, I'm practicing old songs I've forgotten etc and done my accounts.

Here in Bristol the community has rallied around and neighbours who are symptom free are shopping for the elderly and unwell but it's very hard for people.

I feel it's making us feel closer and more aware of how dependent we all are on each other and on people all over the planet for our selfish lifestyle and I hope some positives can come out of this horrible situation. They announced the cancellation of Glastonbury Festival today which is a huge thing here. Of course all our savings are plummeting too.

Anyway - a lot of artists are recording songs and streaming them as we can't attend any pubs, clubs or open mics at the moment so I might have a go at that. Would be great if people here could do that too to cheer us all up!!

Much love and keep well - Chandra

Everything here in Boston is very quiet and empty and eerie. Mostly everything is closed down. The citizens in the US are resilient and not inclined to panic, but it's very distressing how little organization there is on a national level. It would make such a difference if there was some steady news of the status/progress instead of all this moment by moment scrambling around for information and supplies. My son works at Harvard - dental school of medicine so we do get some good information from his sources.

I guess we gotta do our best, world wide. We are all in this together and that's the way we'll get out - together

Love to everyone

All I can say is common sense prevails during this crisis, the elderly of course will be more prone to be affected if they contract the virus, a lot depends on your immune system, current health and also genetics. I have concerns for those in care homes and if the virus takes hold there, that is a bad thing, one care facility here in our area had one person who was contagious, a care giver, they recovered but a number of elderly people were not so fortunate , and now many deaths have occurred in that one place. In Washington State our neighbor to the south of BC well the same thing happened in a care home and numerous deaths have happened in that one facility. This is a brutal ugly unforgiving horrible virus.

Make sure to follow the health authorities recommendations, one thing this is teaching us is the old rule of quarantine and isolation, something that seemed to get lost in the shuffle over the last many decades. Social distancing and self isolation is the rule of the day.

but in an important thing that recently happened, this was a news release just issued by our province and the City of Vancouver, this is a serious issue. And we need to abide by the requests specified in order to protect ourselves and others.

"Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart has declared a state of emergency over the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. He says social-distancing is critical.
And the mayor says business owners need to ensure social-distancing is happening, or close to the public. He is also threatening to crack down on hoarders. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth is also declaring a provincial state of emergency. The declaration helps ensure a coordinated response to the pandemic."

Yep! Dang It! I AIN'T GETTIN' NO DAMNED VACINE!!! They probably got some weird nanobot technology in it(for some "greater purpose" I am sure) and are then gonna paint me as a "terrorist"... or maybe just some inconsiderate jerk/conspiracy theorist. All I know is that during the first two years of "promotion" of that flue vaccine that well over 50% of all the people getting the flue each year were the ones that took their vaccine(68% if my memory serves correct). Their "excuse" was "oops!"... we musta just used the "wrong type" of flue vaccine. That is all. Cuz you KNOW that our vaccine cannot "cause the flue"! And IF you DO think that way you are nothing but a "conspiracy theorist"... and EVERYONE AGREES that "conspiracy theorist" are nothing but "FOOLS"! Like I’m on the brink of a panic attack every waking moment. Constant anxiety. Emotionally weary. Something like this has been my worst fear ever since I can remember. I remember I couldn’t watch certain movies my friends watched like Outbreak (and others like it) because I just couldn’t handle it. The idea of being so helpless and vulnerable. Now it’s everyday reality and I’m honestly afraid to leave my house. Isolation doesn’t bother me. I lived alone with my son who has Fragile X Syndrome for 7 years where our world was incredibly small. Lots of practice. But that was a preference. I’ve never been afraid to leave before. Every action I can’t help but try in vain to map the figurative butterfly effect of my actions or inactions. Did you get infected? Did you infect someone else? And did they? Of every social interaction. Seeing it in every aspect of the news. Sports news=All cancelled due to Coronavirus. Tech news=E3 cancelled due to....Coronavirus. Business news= economic devastation due to...guess what...Coronavirus. I’m able to work from home but even my work has become all about the virus. It’s exhausting. This has been my worst fear since childhood and I’m living it.

HI,

Not doing too badly, have been isolating with my partner for the last two weeks as she had 'symptoms' and as we come to the end of that the UK is going into a kind of lockdown, which most are finally geting it seems!

Persoannly getting a little anxious about the financial support self employed musicians aren't getting just yet! Also getting twitchy from not gigging, not from the income need but the shear need to gig.

Normally would go busking in a gap between gigs just for that reason, but not sure that would go down well at the moment!

There is a mental health hotline specifically for this crisis. It is free and confidential. The number
is 1-844 863 9314

The hotline is staffed by 6000 Mental Health professionals who volunteered their time.

If calling that number is not your thing - I suggest that you use email, text, Skype, Zoom or just your phone to connect with everyone you know. Re-establish old friendships and make new ones. Strengthen family ties and get creative with how you communicate. We’re far apart now but when this is over we’ll be closer than ever. The world will never be the same. It will be better.

This storm will pass. Hang in there my dear friends.

Much of the same here in California Bryon. My wife and I have been isolated for a couple of weeks now. No worry's. Were both retired and we love each other so being together is not such a bad thing at all. It is what we do daily anyway. I spend most of the day in the studio working on projects and she has TV and the internet to entertain her when I am busy. But the neighborhood is very quiet and nobody is stirring much. I live next door to park and I go there to practice martial arts twice a day. I see people muddling around here and their but everyone is maintaining their distances. No one talks to me and that is not unusual either as I am the only Black man for miles around here and people tend to ignore me. I am cool with that because I am not the social butterfly anyway. Currently I am doing mostly everything (including my martial arts class) virtually online. Sign of the times I suppose. But I do miss kicking my classmates asses while sparring. I know, I know, I am kind of sick that way. I love violent sports. Always have. Sarted out boxing but after multiple concussions switched over to Kung Fu ( Choy Lay Fut/Panther Fist and Goshin jitsu/Snake Fist) But now, competing may be in the past. They have already cancelled this years tournament. No problem, I'm getting too old anyway. But that's life in Bay for me right now. Be Safe, Stoneman

I watched the news earlier and it's pretty severe here in Boston. Governor Charlie Baker was speaking - usually a low key, non political type - but he was really angry and frustrated and sounded that way. 150 care givers have tested positive for COVID 19 and he can't get the gear (masks, etc) they need to protect themselves.

Then I got an email from a dear friend who lives in Santa Cruz and it made so much of a difference in my night - Berklee College of Music right in the same city as so much pain and worry.
