Learning Curve, one big freaking challenge and still trying
Man when I first came to iacmusic aka IMP. I was a nothing burger, really, I plunked the piano, did not have a song to my name cause I really was not interested, I just liked to play the piano and do some teaching and pitch artists music to terrestrial radio.

Reason I came here basically was to get my brothers band up and running here,
theblue voodoo, that was quite a few years ago now, had to be like 2003 or 2004 and then building my business and self as a promoter and got other groups bands and solo artists represent here at iacmusic. That was one part of what I did, most of my time was spent dealing with radio stations and djs

Then I started listening to the artists here and developed a penchant for writing the occasional snippet of what I thought of the songs. Awesome musicians and players singers indeed

Over the years I started up some stations like the eYe and Music is Truth, Smash, many more and had an enjoyable time listening to tons of music and would write what I thought of the songs and the artists. Fun Times.

Then 9 years ago I did some piano work at blue frog studios and recorded my first album, all piano ,nothing spectacular, but at least I accomplished something, after being challenged by my wife to do something with my music abilities. It did decent as I knew all the radio stations to send the cd to being in the radio promo publicist end of things. Holding to the Dream was the first of many projects

I have to thank iacmusic artists for the inspiration, I learned a lot, really was not into the recording end, but started to learn, and still developing my skills there, long ways to go, but it has been Fun.

Thanks everyone who frequents this place on the pipeline, all of you have helped me to aspire to be involved in making music and listening to all your amazing songs has helped me immensely

There is a lot more I could say, but I just wanted to express my thoughts and share with you the joy I have gotten of being a part of this community and learning so much from so many,

Cheers and continued success to you all

Thanks Scott, I paid my dues here I guess, cut my teeth so to speak, listening, learning ,understanding production, was really kinda not much of a guy knowing anything about doing projects or recording, a novice, for sure, ignoramus there in the recording end. well in a way musically I developed my chops here sharing my music little by little. Learning, using various software. experimenting, figuring things out Doing recording at blue frog, then my brothers studio, etc.

But prior to coming here I did serious amounts of performing doing covers, jazz and easy listening at bars or restaurants as a solo pianist, and I worked my buns off learning how to play jazz properly, walking bass lines ,comping, and weaving in solo melodies, no easy task, like any player knows how much work effort and dedication it takes to get good at your craft. Learning all kinds of styles and genre, developing a repertoire. Whether Standards or ones originals .And of course working my chops playing in bands over the years, did a lot of playing with the bluevoodoo, and was on two of their albums doing piano and hammond stuff.

But anyways, still figuring out how to make music that is pleasing, my style is instrumental, that is my thing, whether piano or in projects with others I have gotten to know here at IMP, quite a few I have had the pleasure and privilege to work with. If it was not for IMP and meeting up with like minded people who love to make music, I would not be doing much, my inspiration and motivation has been here, no where else matches the community here, that is a fact.

Meeting up, having people ask if they would like to be a part of a song, that is cool, and building friendships with people I have never met, lol. and making cool music, that is super cool,. anyways, here we are, still seeing things happening daily at IMP and hearing great music

cheers and all the best

So how does that radio promo gig work? Are these clients of yours? Are you kind of a manager?

There’s no money in music these days, so how do you get paid for that stuff?

One final question, how can you make my music known across the nations?

Pretty sure everyone wonders about these things.

Bob, you should try Twitter. Our band has gotten a huge boost from it, are approaching 8000 followers. Course I can't guarantee that your personality would go over there, haha, but it might.

Bryon is an icon here for sure and as a long time member of the site I have enjoyed his evolution over the years and celebrate all he has done to help make this a great place to share music and make friends. His amazing music and philosophical insights have been inspirational to say the least.

His radio stations are so unique and seem to the be the product of a tremendous amount of time and thought. His critiques of songs are as creative and artful as the songs themselves. Every time I have the honor of having one of my songs critiqued by him - I always approach the first read with a ton of anticipatory excitement because I know the blurb is going to connect directly with the deepest aspect of the song and by extension - to the deepest part of my artistic intention in writing the song. Those blurbs always make my day and lift my spirits.

Artistically, he wears many hats and he wears them with great humility. The hat I wear I enthusiastically tip to Bryon Tosoff, our resident renaissance man.

Bryon,
You have supported a lot of us through time with your stations and other encouragements.

Your individual work has always been professional. Your collabs with Duane Flock and Shoe City Sound are aslo great.

Latley Ben Elliott and Richard Scotti have been producing some great work too.

I think we have all learned from each other and as Scott said we kind of watched each other grow up as atrists which has been an interesting experience.

Hope you are well Bryon.

Thanks for the kind comments, it has been a long learning curve, slow and still climbing the mountain to get better, and improve my skills.

@ Bob give me a shout at btosoff @ shaw.ca in regards to your query.

Dealing with some family issues and health situations for awhile so my time will be dropping off here at IMP substantially

cheers all

Kia Ora Bryon

You have been a fine muso here with all your chops and depth of experience from playing live----but you took the time to work out the site, and how you could help elevate Artists to their potential with caring advice,
and give them a platform with your marvelous group of niche stations which will be your lasting legacy in my mind. Please take a bow.

You've contributed your own great music to this site and collaborated with others of us. All your stations are wonderful to stream and the great critiques are so important to all the artists. You are such an important part of IMP (and IAC before that) in so many ways. Thanks Bryon.
