Funny, how that which is sometimes called 'profanity' actually turns out to be truth.

Your song is brilliant. Well produced and recorded as well.

And like our "Indie Music People" themesong,
which also contained 'frank language' which one might term 'profane',
and we just called 'calling it out like it is'....

It Says Much Which Needs To Be Said Now.

Bravo.

The song contains the message of frustration shared by many indie artists. While the message is a common one in the circle of indy musicians. I'm not sure how well it will translate outside of the indie community.

If your looking for mass appeal bashing what is mainstream and saying it sucks is not likely to win over many mainstream fans.

I respect your feelings on the subject and in some ways agree with what you said in the song. For me it came a across as I'm mad because somebody else song on the radio and mine is not and I think my song is better than what is on the radio. The true statement in that regard is if the mainstream fans heard it and felt this way they would request it and the stations would then play it.

Since I don't think that is happening with this song maybe instead of writing songs about how your bitter that your song is not heard make a song that will have greater appeal that will attract wider audiences since that appears to be what your seeking,

Thanks for listening and the comments, all. Ken, if you get in a frame of mind where what music you're doing is simply to try to gain the largest audience, ya might end up in a bad place.

End up in a bad place like where on the radio with all those other songs you hate?

You need to make the music that you feel in your heart and screw what mainstream feels about it.

If you want to be in mainstream then you have to give them what they want.
If giving them what they want is too far away from what you feel is good then don't do it.

Ken

The bottom line as musicians is the fact that we all want to be heard on a large scale and not just by a few friends or family. Finding that middle ground where the masses are enticed without cutting into your own personal music standards is difficult if not impossible. Of course, there would be many arguments amongst the old guard in this regard. I think Ken hit on the most important thing. There is a style of music that the masses are atracted to. Anyone who desires their attention will have to tap into it. Concessions may have to be made and how far you are willing to go will be up to you. But there are ways of creating that sound without compromising your personal taste. Learning that may mean that you have to study the works of those who have done it recently. Find artists with mass appeal that have not compromised and you will have a starting point towards reaching your goals. Anything that has been done can be done again. The proof is in the doing. I often wonder what makes music good music to most people. Is it the beat, the message, the emotional content etc.? Ask 20 different people and you will probably get that many answers. Ask 20 different artists and it will get wierd and in some cases outrightly violent. Some people take themselves and their music way too serious. I believe that the jury is still out on what is really good music. I believe that the greatest musicians and songwriters have not even been born yet. But most folks here know that I am a bit of a dreamer and optimist. Show me a negative happening and I am bound to find something positive in it. Basically, I just enjoy championing the lost causes. You know? the ones that everyone else has abandoned. Makes me want to holler and throw up both my hands. (As mentioned in song by my personal hero Marvin Gaye many years ago.)
