More to come........
I started writing several years ago and over those years I have been blessed to meet up and become friends with numerous, very talented people. These great friends have helped me put my words into music and get my message across to the world. To all of them I am forever grateful.
A special thanks goes out to Ralf Muller at Studio 11-77 for all of his production and arrangement assistance.
How it started:
A collection of various acoustic / soft rock / country compositions I have written with help from friends and featuring various artists who have helped me get my musical message across. Thanks a bunch to all of them. Album produced at Studio 11-77 (Laval, Quebec, Canada)
Almost ten years ago, just after my divorce, I began playing guitar. With the help of an old friend I was soon strumming up a storm with buddies and pals around the picnic table in their backyard, playing everything from the Beatles to the Eagles. During the course of this time I met a woman (it always happens that way, doesn't it?). She inspired me to start writing lyrics and soon I had a few verses jotted down and was working on the melodies for them. It was through her inspiration and love that I was able to put these words across to those who would listen. Many of these songs are about her.
I formed a small band with a few of my friends and together we started working the songs into something resembling music. Many of the songs on this album were originally created within that group, "Midlife Crisis". That group soon ended, as did the relationship with the woman and my songs were put on the back shelf for some time.
It was almost a year later when I was fortunate enough to listen to a young woman playing at a local club. She was doing a solo acoustic show, playing hits and old favourites, but it was her voice that caught my attention. We soon began to talk about music together after her shows (I went to see her play often), and we developed a close friendship during our time together. It was this woman who pushed me to work on the songs again and she helped me with many of the melodies you will hear on this album. Many of the songs completed here are directly due to her and her talented voice. She also came up with many of the arrangements and is therefore included on the songwriting credits for those songs....that woman was Rachel Kapasi.
Rachel and I were soon working together on both of our songwriting projects and formed a small trio, along with bassist Ron Poole, which we called "Anna's Dare". Out of this trio were formed the melodies for "All of the Moments", "Little White Boxes" and the more recently worked "Rainbows."
But social obligations, work and distance became a problem for the band and we went our separate ways. Although Rachel and I still kept in touch, she pursued her solo career and also a lead vocal spot with the group "Darling Nikki", Ron Poole ended up working on a horse ranch (one of his passions) and I went back to the everyday life I enjoyed before the music.
Recently a friend of mine, who was also a musician, encouraged me to come and use his studio if I needed to and I began planning to record some of the music I had always wanted to put out there. The big problem was that I am not a singer (hell, I'm not even very much of a guitar player for that matter), so I needed to find other musicians to help me out. Vocals was the big issue, especially a male lead vocal. But I have found someone who enjoys the music style I write in and his voice fits my writing to a tee. Enter Garry Couture (Rainbows).
With the addition of Rachel (who sings many of the songs on this album) and Ralf Muller (Producer, guitarist and good friend) the album was resurrected from the drawer where I had put all the lyrics. I am now in the studio regularly, trying to finish songs like Rainbows and working on the arrangements for the other 9 songs on the album. When it is finished you will hear many voices singing my lyrics and a gang of musician friends of mine playing the instruments. If it wasn't for them, this album would not exist and the present version of this "group" would be only a dream. With the hope that this would be the third and final time I try to get this done, there was only one name that could have fit........I give you "Third Time's A Charm."

Five O’clock in the Morning (Perfect Strangers)
©Dare 2004
It’s 5 o’clock in the morning
And here we are once again
I’m sitting here writing songs
You sleep it off in my bed
It’s the same old tune
Just a different key
I can’t get these demons out of your head
We’re perfect strangers
(We’re perfect strangers)
Sharing life’s unknowns
We’re perfect strangers
I couldn’t see the warnings
There were no subtle signs
And anyone could understand
Just why I’m asking why
But I’m so eager to blame myself
For something that’s not my fault
And all I want to do right now is die….tell you why.
We’re perfect strangers
(We’re perfect strangers)
Sharing life’s unknowns
We’re perfect strangers
How many nights can we do this?
I’m numb to the pain.
How many more lives won’t get through this
It’s time to get up from the bed that we’ve made.
We’ve been down this road for such a long time
And there seems no end in sight
This sing could go on for a lifetime
How much is one peaceful night?
We’re perfect strangers
(We’re perfect strangers)
Sharing life’s unknowns
We’re perfect strangers
(We’re perfect strangers)
Together, alone.
We’re perfect strangers.

Garry Couture (Vocals)
Rachel Kapasi (Backing Vocals)
Ralf Muller (Lead Electric Guitar)
????? (Bass)
????? (Percussion)
Lying alone on my bed
Thinking of all those nights that we shared
The memories flow through my head
All the lies and truths in our souls,
That we shared
Now I don’t know what I’m doing here
And I’m not sure that I want to stay
But I’m so tired of wiping these tears away
‘Cause peaceful days
Are like rainbows in the sky
(shining on the water)
Rainbows in the sky.
This happiness never stays
And is heaven really that far away
Now there’s no pot of gold
It’s so strange how life unfolds
It’s so tragic that my love for you
Has left my heart so cold
This loneliness never fades
And it’s so damn hard to cast these fears away
One day my day will come
Until then I’ll wait for the sun
To cast rainbows on the water..yeah
(Rainbows on the water)
Rainbows on the water…yeah
(Rainbows on the water)
Rainbows on the water
(Rainbows on the water)

All Of The Moments
©Dare 2002
Lyrics / Music / Guitar: D. Dare
Music / Guitar / Vocals: R. Kapasi
I wish, I knew
If you were thinking of me now
I wish you could see
How it's tearing me apart
And I wish I could tell
If your pain’s as deep as mine
‘Cause I recall
All the moments, all of the time
I wish I could see
those eyes, and the way they looked into mine.
I wish that I could kiss
those lips that tasted sweet as wine.
And I wish I knew
What you’re doing late at night.
When I recall,
All of the moments, all of the time.
I recall the way your presence made me play so fine
And I recall the time
When we knew we'd finally crossed that line
And I remember every single moment
Like I’m trapped in time.
‘Cause I recall
All the moments, all of the time
I wish I could hear your
Voice just one last time
I wish I knew if I’m always on your mind
And I wish you could see
All the pain you left behind
When I recall
All the moments all of the time.
‘Cause I recall ,
all of the moments, all of the time.

Little White Boxes
©Dare/ Kapasi 2002
Lyrics: D. Dare
Music / Vocals / Guitar: R. Kapasi
Can you hear the sound of children playing,
High above the clouds.
Can you see the glimmer of their smiles,
In the sun upon the ground.
Do you wish sometimes that you could go
Where happiness abounds.
And spend the day upon the swings
In heaven’s eternal playground
Little white boxes
Seem so out of place
We cry so much remembering
the innocence in their face.
It isn’t fair we should be there
To gladly take their place
Why is it some children must line,
Line the clouds with lace
Our lives are blessed by the joy they spread,
Or the first time they may talk.
Why must they fly on little wings,
before they learn to walk.
What is the point to bring them forth
To watch them hurt and die.
What is the master plan behind the pain,
They’re just children,
Why must the children die?
They’re just children,
It’s so hard to say goodbye.
Little white boxes
Seem so out of place
We cry so much remembering
the innocence in their face.
It isn’t fair we should be there
To gladly take their place
Why is it some children must line,
Line the clouds with lace
Little white boxes
Seem so out of place
We cry so much remembering
the innocence in their face.
It isn’t fair we should be there
To gladly take their place
Why is it some children must line,
Line the clouds with lace
Line the clouds with lace

Thanks Gabe, but unfortunately I am having trouble finding artists and musicians to help me record my lyrics. People don't want to work for free around here and I am not a great singer. Wish things would change.
