FIRST "MIXTAPE" SONG UP (for a short time only)
So, I finished recording and mixing (although some cleanup is coming) the first song for the next album...
"Here"
I'm only going to keep it up for a week or so, because I want some reactions and whatnot. And because I like to share. But, it's like nothing like I've ever recorded before and it was a lot of fun to do.
So... I hope that you enjoy it. And, if you don't, that's cool too.
Thanks.

Cool. Link is working now Todd.
Listening now..... intro reminds me of an Atari 2600 :D
Very catchy with some great Europop hooks. I like it a lot :)

Thanks, Titania!
I think that I'm getting used to the song, myself. And I think that I'm actually liking it, too!
It's been getting surprisingly good reactions from just about everyone that's heard it; even my most honest critics.

And Steve,
I'll be taking it down just because I don't want people to get the wrong idea about tne next album. It ain't all gonna sound like that. Not at all.
Maybe one more song in the same vein, but that's it.
Next tune I'm recording will be metal/punk; then Johnny Cash/Sun Records country; then we'll see where I go.

And now it's made the Hitline?
Cool!
Thanks, all!!!
And thank YOU IAC HitLine Selection People!
(Maybe I need to reconsider my approach and make a whole lot more songs like this one. It was a lot of fun...)

You know how it is. People get a good early version, then they work at it 'til they mess it up. This thing is already real cool.

Cool, Todd - brings back memories. I think I was at that party at Eno's that night!

What a great new direction for you! Can't wait to hear more new stuff. Is Noah a new collaborator for you or have you been pals for a while?
And by the way, if there was a KAYAK for best album cover my vote would have gone to "As Drawn by Ethan". I love that image of the little guy and his workmanship. Very evocative of the meaning of Creativity.
Best year ever for you Todd!!!!

Thanks, Terry.
Noah is a new collaborator for me, but I met him through my (old?) keyboard player and label owner.
I'm only going to be working with him on a couple of songs, as his apartment will not accommodate the full-band setup that I need for many of the songs.
But yeah, he is a really talented engineer and very easy to work with. I would tell him what I needed; give him direction... and he would understand.
For instance, there was an issue with the vocal mix, where I wanted them to sit a certain way — I drew him a picture of the way I visualized the way the vox were sitting in the mix, and then a picture of the way that I wanted them to sit, and he COMPLETELY understood!!! It was wonderful!
Add to that the fact that he lives only a couple of blocks from what was my favorite delivery place when I lived within city limits... that's a winning combination!!!
I just wish that he had a full studio somewhere so that we could do more stuff.

Just another couple of days until I take this down.
Glad that you enjoyed it. And, I'll get it back up on the site once the record is done -- whenever that is -- hopefully in a year or so.

It's just that I don't want to give folks the wrong impression of what the next record is gonna be. It's not going to be any one thing. And, that thing is a very specific thing.
The next thing will (most likely) be a country thing.
And then a thing more like what was on the first HoP record.
And then a punk thing.
And then a bluegrass thing.
And then a klezmer thing.
yes.
for real.
So... I'll put up a song at a time, for a limited time, as I finish each one.
And then, when it's all done, I'll put 'em all up. And leave 'em up.
