Thanks, it was indeed lovely to do some live duet work especially - the solo stuff gets kinda lonely, and I've heard enough of my own voice (lol). I'm glad to see you've been advancing on your recording project(s).

Hey nice to see another Guided By Voices fan out there! I turned a couple of people on to them, but haven't listened to anything new since BEE THousand & such... I loved how he would FORESHADOW (often inadvertently) a future track, by including an even crappy-ier demo version on a previous disc...and then Lo & behold a more finished version on a newer collection! Of course he IS one of the LO-FI kings, in my mind.
Oh crap! Should've guessed this one too - You're a fan of The FALL & Mark E. Smith too! Hells yeah Todd.... The Knack, Teenage Fan Club, The Beegees and then all the way to the obscure underground GBV & The Fall YOU and I have to blahblahh...more often.
I bet you like Al Green & The Residents too? Yup. Thought so! MUSIC is about the passion...

Hop On Pop

Hell, my whole lo-fi period was inspired by GBV, whom I sort of modeled myself after at the time.
You've heard "The Yummy Song", no?
And "If It's Important To You" may not be lo-fi, but that big hook at the end is pure Pollard.
Sorry. Now this has become something of a promo thread. But I have been into GBV for a while now, and I do love them so. You know that Bob Pollard has a page on IAC, don't you?

NO way! I'll have to look at that this week, and get some of his music up on my stations for sure! one of my idols from the 90s...and somebody who paved the way for my own twist on the whole music thing...
So Does that mean HE, himself put it up here, as an indie artist? Or is it a FAN page, like some of the GREATS that are on here appear to have...
Nobody will tell me if some of these amazing artists like Mr. Pollard, Dano Johnston, X, NIN, Cracker, Tom Waits, Pennywise, Frank Black, Van Morrison and even Pete Townshend (which I KNOW is really him), are REAL artist pages... or just fan pages, like exist on so many other indie music distribution sites (purevolume, isound, etc.)...
I've been showin' 'em to my fans, friends, family and other musicians, as if these "real" artists are up in here on IAC with the likes of you & little ole me...
It's true right? I mean, since they're not on major labels (even Samuel Jackson, for example, or NO/FX), they're honestly on IAC as indie artists? Please, I must know.
TODD, by the way I haven't forgotten that I am to be checkin' out HOP on POP & the other great project of yours CASH COW== it's just NOT somethin' I wanna do without giving an actual listenin' ear. I think it's YOU & Anjuli who are NEXT on my list.... It's just other greats like TEENAGE Fan CLub, DIRGEk and many more keep jumpin' in front of you!
Anyway, NICE to talk music with you... and I'll definitely by checkin' out those LINKS in your comment there. ROCK the FUCK on! -phlegm

LOVE The Replacements, Paul Westerburg, Prince, John Cale (during Velvet Underground dayz? Yes?), uh... HANSON? -- you mean the family band?
I like the Cowsills better.
Or even the Partridge Family.
So TODD -- What's the story on all these amazingly successful artists with IAC pages? Is it really the artists, or their publicist/manager/label/ etc.?
Or are many of these pages of FAMOUS artists just Fan-boy/girl pages -- like on so many other Music Distribution Sites out there?
I ask a lot of questions, don't I ? -pHLeGm ????

I have no idea about whether or not it's actually the artist or not.
I'm just making an assumption that it's management putting one up, and that the artists themselves probably rarely (if ever) actually come here.
That John Cale is his first album after leaving the VU. But really, all of his first 5 or 6 albums are well-worth having. (If you have not yet heard Paris, 1919, please do yourself a favor and remedy that!
As to Hanson: I am not a proud man. But there is some pretty solid pop music on that there record.

Various Artists - The Lounge Ax Defense & Relocation CD
That Lounge Ax collection was assembled to raise money to help one of the great rock clubs in Chicago defray some legal costs because a Yuppie neighbor moved in next door and started complaining about the noise. Moron. I played there several times myself, and it was just as excellent a place to play as it was to see a show.
Anyway, there are songs on there from:
The Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Yo La Tengo, Guided By Voices, Superchunk, Tortise, Archers Of Loaf, Mekons, and that's only the half of it.
Sadly, the club closed down in 2000, and thus closed the doors on my youth.
On a side note: it was also the only female-owned rock club in Chicago at the time, and one of the owners is the wife of Jeff Tweedy (Wilco).

Tenpole Tudor - Best Of: Swords Of a Thousand Men
As to The Exploding Hearts: Phlegm and other lovers of The Clash, or Green Day (yes I know they are very different) would love this band, as it finds the common ground between the two. Just great rock and roll. So good.
Tenpole Tudor: Steve Ison, if you don't know these guys (but I'll guess that you do), you would love this. True, Eddie Tudor isn't much of a singer, but the hooks are undeniable. And anyone else who is a fan of true English pub rock, dig it!

They were a late-'70's "garage band" from Essex. I only had one of their albums, but the last couple of days I've had "Teenage Depression" running through my head for some reason.
That damn plate in my head must've shifted.

great to see The CLEAN and PAVEMENT up in there..... Now I can see that you truly ARE a fan of Mark E. Smith & THE FALL, because both of these other two bands share influence from mr. smith.... Still amazed by the diverse listening ear you have. But NOW that I've loaded up my stations with your tunes, I can SEE that your influences have created a VERY varietacious sound 4 u. ROCK on!

I just saw them in March.
Love 'em!
"A Fairytale Of New York" is far and away my favorite Christmas song. Chokes me up every damn time.
And "Sally MacLannane" my be the best drunken singlalong (shoutalong -- "FAR AWAY!!!") ever written.
Shane is a tragic character, to be sure. A modern-day Joyce, drinking away his life and yet so obviously brilliant. Also, if you've read any interviews with him, he also seems like a genuinely good guy... which triples the tragedy of it all.

A: I do post in the morning. And the albums that I post are the ones that I have brought in with me for the day. I do not always get through them all. And sometimes I do get away from my plan. Usually with some IAC.
Re: The Cubs:
The players had gone back into the clubhouse, but came back out to celebrate with the fans when they would not go home.
I agree that the celebration was a bit over the top for a division title, but Cubs fans are starved for ANYTHING. And this is the first time in 100 years that they have even made the playoffs in back-to-back years.
As an outsider, I can see it pissing you off. As a Cubs fan, I know of the love affair between the fans and this team. And I assure you that it is very real. We are close to the action and there is a lot of interaction between us and the players.
I can also assure you that several of the players left the park and went across the street to the local pubs to hang out with some of the fans there, after they left the park. That's just the way it is in Chicago, and part of the reason we do love our Cubbies. It's not just that the park is so beautiful; it's also smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood. And they're a part of it.

Not saying I don't think it was over-the-top, considering.
Just saying that the fans that were there on Saturday most-likely will not be there for even one playoff game. (So hard to get tix.) So it was cool of the players to share a little with the fans.
The clubhouse celebration was a lot more sober.

I immediately recognized HAPPY ASHTRAY, as your friend from Chicago itself.
I checked his IAC PAGE and he's still only on a couple of stations, with NO comments.
I have two sets of former bandmates from TUCSON who are in projects that are being ignored like that. THEY, like Happy Ashtray's stuff, have great music.
I suggested they should try blogging a little, and using the SHOUT boxes on stations to get the word out, and get noticed & listened to. I think they're gonna actually do something about it this time.
I'm sure you've learned that YOU are your BEST and most reliable promoter. Nobody's gonna do it for you.
My guess is Happy Ashtray is Happy with his Chicago & surrounding area connects, and has no desire beyond that? IF NOT, you really should encourage him to actively get involved. IAC really is the BEST place for independent, Original music. Just my thoughts Todd.

At any rate, I just got back from recording with him this weekend... Not sure if I'm gonna post the song yet, as there are a few things that I wanna fix first. But it is off to a damn good start, methinks.

Oh, and we did watch some Flip yesterday.

Damn -- tha's why we've been on the same wavelength lately ---
Pavement &The Pixies are TWO of my biggest influences/loves in Indie Music and two of the few bands out there that have "made" it, that I actually got to see before they were hot stuff!
(Of course they're not QUITE as indie and unknown as WE two are, eh? Hee hee ehh e.... ahhh heh . hmm. )

Oh yeah, I saw both bands too.
Pixies I saw on the Doolittle tour.. in a teeny little room in Columbia, MO (where I was going to college). And then I saw them again on their final "real" tour in 1991.
Pavement I didn't see until Wowee Zowee, when they were already selling out Metro in Chicago. It's the biggest of the little rooms in town, and, back in the day, was the home base for another band you may know and love -- Naked Raygun.
