Basic tracking for MIXTAPE song #2 is done!
I had this ProTools experiment that I wanted to try out. I knew that it would either be amazing or a complete trainwreck:
It turned out even better than I had hoped it would. Damn, is this cool!
"Hey" (lo-fi demo HERE) is a song that I wanted to record with the drums in ROUNDS:
*Dave recorded a whole bunch of different 1-measure drum patterns.
*We picked the 4 that we liked the best/thought would work the best
*Then we copied and pasted them together
*Then copied those 4 measures one after another to create drum track that stretched the length of the song.
Next came the tricky part:
*We took that whole track of drum patterns, and copied THAT onto 2 more successive tracks, only STAGGERED them, so the second begun 5 measures after the first track or drums, and teh third began 5 measures after teh second track of drums and...
Voila! Drums in rounds!
So cool!
And now... you'll have to wait several months to hear it until the song is completely mixed!
Welcome back, y'alL!!!

Mixing sessions are now scheduled for June 22, at which time Dave and I will also track a THIRD song for the album -- a very simple little ballad: acoustic guitar, piano, and (hopefully) viola.
Then, the following day, we have our first full-band rehearsal with lead guitarist Nils St. Cyr (ex-Urge Overkill/Nash Kato) and Steve Siculan (ex-Twang Bang). They're both great guys and amazing musicians that should add a lot to the project for the couple of songs that they have agreed to play on.
April, 2009 is looking more and more like a doable release date. Keep your fingers crossed...

Looks like the universe is unfolding as it should...
And just think how down you were a few months ago!
Success can be measured in many ways, but I firmly believe that you "bring it with you when you come", Todd. (Of course, sometimes it takes a form that we weren't expecting too :-)
Best regards, Terry

Okay... last rehearsal for song #3 is tonight, and then we go back to Noah's to mix track #2 and record track #3.
Noah tracked down a viola player for us for the latter, which is exactly what that song needs, methinks.
Cool.
