Your favorite moment gigging?
For me it was about 9 years ago:
I was playing a show at a great Chicago club, opening for Freedy Johnston. I had a miserable draw that night, but it made no difference, as the club was all but sold-out (about 300 people jammed into a small room).
I was playing my last song of the night ("Happy Days", of which I have a live version at my page), which has a "Na-na" coda.
So, whaddya know... I had all 300 people total strangers singing along lustily to this little tune that I had written in 5 minutes one night while my wife was cooking dinner for me.
Now that was a rush...
You?

Hey Larree,
Did a jazz trio gig last night with Sally Strawberry and the venue owner paid us ... in advance, like before we played. Almost died of shock :-)

My own favourite moment is when an upright piano toppled over, during a set. I'm still not sure what caused it (we were pretty good, but we didn't usually rearrange furniture), but we kept playing and had a pent-up laugh afterwards.

It's great when you can get the audience to sing along.... and have a good time
I love it when folk join in the "Beer Beer" chorus, of a song I wrote in 2003....
Here's a short clip from this year at The Cellar, Osaka.

I was leaving a club where I had gigged and somebody grabbed my ass as I walked by. I think that was my favorite moment. I had a girlfriend at the time so I didn't look (lol)...I've always assumed it was a girl...

Gigging with a classic rock band about 3 summers ago at an outdoor show. We were between songs when t police officers walked in front of the stage. I started playing the Dragnet theme, causing everyone to laugh hysterically. The officers were not altogether amused.

Great moment Todd!
Larry & Andy: we got a $100 bonus on top of $1200 when we played the Arcola communiplex. that was nice
SRM: A drunk fell over my monitor in the local bar here. I walked home in a soggy sweatshirt in January (Canadian January that is)
My-T-Hi : We tend to really milk the Doors " Woke up this morning and got myself a ___? Crowd loves it. Great vid BTW, love that too.
Hugh: Last Friday night some gorgeous young lady snuggled up to get a bass playing lesson from me on stage. Cell phone cameras flashing like crazy. Strict orders were issued not to post that on the internet (wife :-).
Nerol: HaHa! I can just imagine it. We like to reserve "I Fought the Law" for the same general effect.
Great stuff guys! How about the girls?

Once we were driving to Aspen Colorado for a gig in 1999 and as we drove through Denver they played us on the radio. Our agent was getting us pre play on collage stations sometimes but this was a major radio station!
That was the first time I ever heard us on the radio outside of our hometown....it was huge for me.
And we opened for Fishbone at the Solar music fest in 1998, and I LOVE them, it was very cool to just be in the same scene with them for an afternoon.
And the next year we did this Gig at the sustainable living community outside Taos and opened for Michael Franti and Spearhead whom I also LOVE.
Playing through Thunder Audios system on a huge sky tent stage!
That was a great day.

Gee, there were nights Spinal Tap wouldn't believe the crap that's happened to us onstage..
OK the funny ones:
We drove 1 hour to a gig (I booked) and discovered we'd forgotten the PA head.. guitar player went back for it and his car engine blew up on the way back.. I had to go get him and it.. we didn't start playing till 11pm.. club owner was not happy..
One night one of the singers missed his cue so the guitar player bounced a lit cigarette off the back of his head.. he didn't feel it.. I saw the shower of sparks fly everywhere from behind and lost it..
I programmed 1/2 of the keyboard instruments for a song I played along live to.. while I was playing and singing lead during the middle of a huge musicians party I stepped backwards onto the cord going into the PA and slipped it out of it's channel.. as I realized we (power trio) were missing sounds like the bass and such I also realized if I bent down to slip the cord back in.. the missing sounds would suddenly reappear without my hands on the board.. so I finished a kickin' Fleetwood Mac tune with only 1/2 of the instrumentation..
Arrived for a wedding by myself to play the dinner hour before the band arrived.. PA was not set up and I was not sure how the guys wanted it set up.. so I sat demurely upon a speaker watching dinner be served.. with no music.. as the bride and groom began to glare I made my way thru the kitchen (danger zone during weddings I'll tellya) and phoned the band leader.. informed him I was supposed to play dinner and they were already eating.. he claimed I started at 6 pm.. it was 5 pm.. went back and sat on speaker.. got more looks now from the entire bridal party.. went back and called leader again.. he again insisted I started at 6.. went back and forth a few more times.. leader finally checked the contract.. it said 5 pm.. he threw on a tux and flew over.. by then dinner was over.. as he walked in to set up the PA the groom and ushers strode towards the stage and I ran off to the bathroom.. I came out to find the groom and friends threatening to beat band leader up.. the other guitar player throwing a hissy fit over *being treated like that* and the bride screaming.. I stepped between them all and said to the bride *scream at me*.. she stopped.. blinked and asked *why it wasn't your fault*.. then said I was *too sweet to scream at*.. I said.. *the longer you scream at him the more time it will take to get this show up and running*.. she smiled and walked away.. her groom and friends in tow.. the other guitar player then threatened to leave over *being treated like that*.. I grabbed him by the tux jacket and told him through a smile *pick up your guitar.. get where you're supposed to be.. and start playing it before I kick your a$$*.. we played strait thru the night no breaks and ended up with *rave reviews*...
At another wedding a guest started asking us to sing Loveshack somewhere in the middle of the night.. we didn't know it.. apologized.. and went on with our songlist.. guest kept asking.. finally the guitar player fished a CD with Loveshack on it out of nowhere and threw it on the CD player during our break.. we were still onstage standing by the mics.. here and there he and I.. goofin.. threw in some of the vocal parts we knew (most we didn't) and then walked offstage for break.. at the end of the wedding the guest ran up and thanked us profusely.. raving about the *awesome job we did on Loveshack*.. the guitarist looked at me.. I looked at him and we both rolled our eyes and shook our heads.. we didn't *do Loveshack*.. we PLAYED it on the CD PLAYER.. two years later at another wedding the same guest (I didn't recognize him.. he recognized me) ran up raving once again about the *awesome job we did on Loveshack* at the first wedding..
One night I left my keyboard power cord home.. I spent the entire night *playing keyboards* without it even being plugged in.. no one noticed..
One weekend I forgot we were playing in

.. But my favorite moment gigging was the night we were one of the 4 bands invited to play the live radio broadcast birthday party for the most popular rock station in our area... it was a thrill hearing the radio announcements with our name in the weeks leading up to the gig.. but I'll never forget walking onstage with my guitar and my partner (acoustic duo) and sitting under the glare of a spotlight.. unable to see the crowd gathered below us.. for an entire first set to rounds of applause and cheering after every song..
when I'm 80.. that will be a night to remember...
