LISTEN TO MY NEW SONG!!!!!!! or something.....
Yep.
For a couple of days only, of course, you can hear the new recording of
"Tortured Artist"
My through-composed pop number that I do desperately need to remix and tweak.
Still, the base of the tune is there and I'm curious to hear what you think.
Anyway... it'll be up for a day or two.
Thanks for checking it.

Added it to (the newly revived) Hugo's Hits before seeing the blog...to quote:
Excellent recording, Todd...I'd kinda like to hear it with a single vocal down the middle, but that's just me...I'm not opposed to doubling the vocal in general, but you have a good powerful clear voice and though I can understand using it as an effect I just get to thinking it ain't necessary...I guess I won't be playing it for the kids at dinner time (lol)...real nice job, I look forward to hearing more - the sonic quality is top-notch...
=================
After having a complete listen I figure the double vocal is because you break off into harmony and a staggered timing thang on occasion...and I hear you dropping to one now and then and then rebuilding...so I suppose it's a reasonable bit of interesting texture to put in...still...lol...it ain't a bad thing to do but I'm craving more of a "two-vocal" thang than a "doubled vocal" thang...just me...nice work!

It's funny you commented on that, Hugh. I just sent off an email about an hour ago telling John that I thought the vocals should be blended a little more (although it was a conscious decision to keep 'em split at the time) because it was bugging me.
Although, in the verse talking about being late, I am going to keep that staggered, separated vocal on the delayed --- "fate". Just because it's a cool effect. Once.
Thanks so much for listening.
And yeah, it'll change before the record comes out.

Good song, Todd. Nice arrangement. I love that acoustic riff. Is that a 12-string? I love the vocal doubling. As for the mismatched double of the word "fate" it's a toss up. It sounds cool but then you don't do the same thing with "mine" and "fine". Maybe you should align the double more closely there but just use a delay on fate, mine and fine so it comes out like you're singing "fate" into a canyon and it repeats into infinity. As it sounds now it could be interpreted as a mistake but I'm really undecided. The two "fates" are kinda far apart. A little closer would be a good compromise and would sound more like an echo than a mismatched double. Eager to hear the finished product! There's a "Ticket To Ride vibe" in some of the guitar riffs that is way cool.

I really like the song Todd. I gave it a go 'round a few times. It has a hint of Buffalo Springfield. The only thing I thought ( and I hate even saying) The guitar part intro and travel might be volumed down "a" notch, the bass is killer. Like I said, I really liked the tune. peace.

Just an FYI and heads-up and all that: it's coming down tomorrow morning.
Thanks to all of you who've listened to the song so far. And I'm looking forward to presenting it to you in it's final form in the springtime!

DOH! I thought it would be up longer, and just clicked on it, and then went to the end of the blog and saw you had removed it. OH well, you've gotten a bit of good feedback, so I'll just patiently wait for the "finished" product.
Just remember Todd, just like with INKing a good pencil drawing, you don't want to embelish it too much -- the contrast and OPEN space is important too!

Oh yeah, there'll be some stuff that I strip away, as well as some stuff that I add to the final piece.
Sorry that you missed it. I hope that you enjoy it when it comes around in the springtime. (I think that it's a good'un.)
