With which (non-IAC) artists do you most wish to collaborate?
You can choose anyone... be they dead or alive.
I'm listening to Harry Nilsson this morning and thinking about how much I would have loved to have played with him got me thinking about this. (Especially getting him to sing on a new song of mine that I cannot sing!!!)
So, who for you, and in what capacity?
My list:
Harry Nilsson (vocalist/musician)
Brian Eno (producer/musician)
Roy Wood (producer/musician)
Nick Lowe (musician/producer)
James Burton (musician)
Steve Cropper (musician/producer)
Okay... your turn.

We have worked many great players, like David Rhodes (Peter Gabriel's guitarist), Liam Genockey (drums, Steeleye Span), BJ Cole, (Mr Pedal Steel in the UK) and several other great players! It is always amazing just how fast these people are, how they can find wonderful riffs and grooves and melodies, from nowhere... it is so worthwhile to work with real professionals!
My advice? Don't dream about it - do it!

I'd like to say Chic Corea but I think I'd be so completely intimidated that I couldn't talk to the guy much less work with.
Actually all of these guys would intimidate me a little I think, but Chic, damn, it'd be like hanging out with Sergie.........

I love Lorreena McKennitt, for her originality and style. I'd say she's the one I identify most with, if only I could play the harp.

Hey Wendy, a couple of the people we work with have worked with Loreena - believe me, if you knew her and her atitude to other musicians, you wouldn't want to work with her!!!

Every time I have a dream in which I have the opportunity to jam with one of my musical heroes they ask me to start off a song and I not only can't think of which song to play, I wake up hyperventilating, in a cold sweat...lol...too true...
I don't really fantasize about jammin' with the biggies any more. But I would have loved to be on the "Concert For George" stage...I'd play in Sir Paul's road band, that's for sure...you'd think those cats would move on their own solo stuff and give the rest of us a chance...lol...I'd stand up and get down with the Allmans any time...I'd rather watch Nilsson than play with him. His stuff is so meticulously crafted that as much as I adore the songs and admire the artist it doesn't seem it would be much "fun". I'd rather go out drinking with him and John...I'd play second fiddle to Neil Young any day...would LOVE to play an instrument for Eric Burdon, maybe even sing some backing vocals...
My real fantasies these days are centered on getting in the same room with the actual folks that I do manage to collaborate with. The long distance collabs have their fun aspects but they also have serious limits. I'd especially enjoy doing a British tour of virtual friends and having a crack at the goodies in their studios...

Brian Eno. I've always felt a connection with him. I think he'd understand and appreciate what we're doing. For some reason I don't think he'd intimidate me like virtuoso musicians do. He's more of a sound designer / sculptor / painter than a musician. Like me!

Yeah, that's a great song! Supposedly, the entire album is really good. It is on my "to buy" list.

yeah this is a loaded question and hard to answer in just two or three peeps.
I would have loved to sit down with:
Carl Perkins, What Licks Man Go Cat Go
Fats Dommino, Ya have to listen to all of this guys tunes
John and George, Just beacuse
Brian Wilson, Learn how to do those harmonies
and one Of our own...
Neil W. Young, So we can tilt a Bottle of Gentleman jack and play till the Sun comes up in Memphis.
Sounds like a title for a new tune.

Hmmmm... There are many people I'd like to be in the presence of, just to watch (SRV, Knopfler, Gary Moore come to mind), but if it's for collaborating, then I'd have to say I'd want to sit in with:
- Neil Finn/Crowded House (just for the opportunity to craft songs with a master)
- Radiohead (any and all of them at the same time)
- Fastball (who sound like a blast)
And specifically just because he's now got such a professorial attitude, I would love to be locked in a room with Edge from U2 for the sheer learning experience.

Great topic Todd.
At the top of my list at the moment is Keith Green. He's no longer with us though so I guess I'll just have to wait!!

Steve Morse / The Dregs
I met Steve once at a NAMM show, when I was 16.
I saw him walk by, and asked, "Excuse me... Steve Morse?"
"Yeah."
"I'm a big fan."
"Really? Aw... thanks! You play?"
"Yeah."
"How long?"
"Just a couple of years."
"You practice with a metronome?"
"No."
"Well, you should. That's the best piece of advice that I can give you: practice with a metronome. It'll make a big difference!"
"Thanks."
"You got anywhere to be? Come on, take a walk with me back to the (Ernie Ball) booth. Let's chat!"
"Okay!"
One of the nicest guys that I have ever met. Made a big impression on me. Yeah, I would love to work with him, as well!
