I bought a piano at an estate sale this weekend
$425 (+125 for delivery, over 4 blocks)
The thing is in wonderful condition not a dead key across the entire keyboard, and the case doesn't have a knick.
I bought it just in time, as there were a couple other people interested, included a piano teacher, who expressed her envy. Thing sounded great, too.
I've been wanting one for a while, and I don't think that I'm gonna find a better deal than this. It's the kind of thing that I walk into Estate Sales and garage sales hoping to stumble upon.
Can't remember the brand off-hand, but it sounds great and plays nicely, too. My son will finally have a decent instrument to practice on. And I may find myself playing on it, too.
Hopefully, having an entirely new instrument will inspire me to start writing more. I don't play piano at all, so I'm hoping that having that total and complete ignorance of the instrument will help me find some new things new melodies floating around out there that I'll be able to harness. Maybe write some cool new tunes.
And, if not, at least we'll have a piano.

My parents bought a great old piano when I was in the fourth grade. It's from around the turn of the century (lol..the last one). It was the greatest thing that they ever bought, as far as I'm concerned (the old pump organ is a close second).
It's sitting in MY living room today and there's still nothing quite like it. The harmonics coming off of that old wood and strings took my imagination all over the place. Even today, when I'm getting stale, I can sit down at the old gal and she inspires me anew.
Congratulations!!!!

Congratulations! Enjoy your piano. It's so wonderful to play the piano and compose new songs.

Good for you! I think it's really important to have a piano, especially a good one. I'm still playing the piano I grew up with, and I honestly think that instrument is the one true love of my life.
Wishing you many hours and years of happy playing.

Cool!
I got a piano last year as a high school graduation gift, which was pretty sweet. Only problem is that it'll be staying at my parents house for awhile until I get my own place...
But $425 for a piano is a great deal. Would like to know what kind of piano it is though...

Good on ya Todd.
We did the same thing about a year ago. Cool to have a piano in the house again, to rattle out a few numbers with the kids.
cheers, niteshift

Todd - that's so cool!!!! I super wish we had a real deal piano around here... however, we'd have to get rid of a kid in order to fit it in : )
got a keyboard that talks to garage band tho, and it has definitely inspired some motion in the musical ocean for me.
Enjoy!!!!

Hi there :)
Cool on the Piano man!
That was my first instrument! I found an old piano in the third floor attic of the apartment we lived in when we were kids. I had no idea how to play it but by the end of the Summer I was making sounds that sounded ok.
Now I have a Yamaha Motif 8 with weighted keys and love it!
Have fun my friend, that's all that matters!

That's awesome Todd, you scored Bro!
I think you will find writing at the Piano a new doorway to inspiration. You will find a new side of your songwriting. Like you , I primarily write on guitar but when I got my piano I found it liberating.
I think you will pick up the piano rather quickly. You have musical talent, a sense of rhythm and mel;ody, and gift for writing. The piano is a single plane, where the guitar is six :) I am not a piano player, but I can "Play" the piano...I hope that makes sense :) (See Cry 9/11). Its a matter of learning the chords and rote practicing. There is no breaking in period where your fingers bleed...like the guitar. If your already a musician, you have a huge advantage.
Good Luck, I look forward to hearing some piano tunage :)

Cool.
What brand? Photos?
If you are interested, you can look up the serial number online, to tell you the age.
It's always worth having tuned, once the piano has settled down from the move.
A piano is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.
Well done!
