Jack Bruce of Cream
Did anyone get a chance to see Jack Bruce on the Hippifest tour?

I saw him last night 3rd row at a small theater in NJ and he was totally amazing!!!!!!!!

For having been as sick as he has been over the last four years with his liver cancer battle and his two liver transplants he still put on one heck of a show and his voice sounded great too!! He played about nine songs and never lost any energy, unlike three years ago when I saw him at MSG in NYC at the Cream reunion and had to keep sitting down on a stool!

I guess his health is improving and I'm glad to see he feels well enough to tour!

Cheers,

-TS

Jack Bruce was and is one hell of a great musician and I've always thought his voice is so cool. I am glad to hear his health appears to be better. Rock on Jack!

Why was he sitting in the third row?

Why did he have 2 liver transplants? He had liver cancer? Oh that's awful...how old is he now? He didn't have hepatitis did he? Wow, power to him that he was able to tour. I'm sad to hear he was sick. Problems with the liver can be very serious.

No, I didn't see him, sounds like fun though. Thanks for the update. I spent plenty of time jammin' on bass along with Cream albums back in the day...Wheels of Fire...Disraeli Gears...Live Cream Vol. II...sweet...

Jack's 65 now!

Below is the setlist from the show:

As You Said (Jack played solo acoustic)
Sunshine of You Love
Sitting On Top Of The World
I Feel Free
We're Going Wrong
White Room (complete with a very long blistering jam) much better version than the Cream reunion concerts. Godfrey Townshend actually played Clapton's original leads better than Clapton......if you can believe that!
Politician (w/Bernie Worrell on Hammond organ) another long intense jam
Spoonful (w/Bernie Worrell on Hammond organ) yet another long intense jam

I think he might have played one more song, but I just can't seem to remember what it was at the moment!

I only saw Jack perform 3 times over the past 20+ years and he definitely still has it. He sounded AWESOME and did a lot of jamming with his band, but unfortunately he looked really thin & frail.

If anyone reading this lives in either Georgia or Florida you can still probably grab some tix for tomorrow and Saturday night's gigs!

Cheers,

Sounds like an awesome setlist! I have the Cream Reunion DVD and enjoyed the behind the scenes interviews as well. I've never seen EC or Jack live. Or Ginger for that matter (lol). If I were to encounter them live it would kinda break my heart, cuz I'd just want to play along...at least when seeing Paul you're only one of 20,000 people singing along with Hey Jude, and nobody thinks twice about it (lol)...

One of my favorite Cream songs is "Thorn Tree in the Garden". I can't remember whose tune it is. Not surprised that it wouldn't be on a setlist like this, since it's a lovely acoustic number. I always thought that one was an undervalued masterpiece though...

Have you seen the Tom Dowd bio DVD? You might dig it...

Doesn't get into Cream, but Derek & The Dominos a bit - and a host of others, from jazz and R&B greats to Allman Bros. and Lynyrd Skynyrd...

Must add that "Politician" seems almost always to be on the tip of my tongue...I break into that one quite frequently when noodling. A classic, as all of the tunes listed are...

Hugh,

Thanks for the link to the bio DVD, it's much appreciated!

My wife took some good videos of the show! We were so close to the stage that at times, Jack actually fills up the whole video screen, very up-close and personal video of him soloing and two of the videos are actually pretty long (the sound isn't the best though because he played REALLY loud and it broke up on the video). If I have time over the weekend I'll try to post them on youtube and send you the link!

Cheers,
